Founded in July of 1999, the School of Accounting’s history dates back to the 1950s when the Accounting Program was set up at the Beijing College of Economics, the predecessor of CUEB. With its accounting discipline as one of the key disciplines in Beijing and its accounting program as a Beijing Distinctive Program, School of Accounting is dubbed an incubator for accounting and auditing professionals at top and middle levels in Beijing.
The School currently offers two undergraduate programs—accounting and financial management. Under the accounting program, there are two majors, namely Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and International Accountant. Currently, the School comprises the following teaching and research institutes: Department of Accounting, Department of Auditing, Department of Financial Management and laboratories. It has an experienced teaching staff that is well balanced in age structure and excels at translating theories into practice. At present, there are 66 staff members, including 10 professors, 32 associate professors and 12 lecturers. Of the teaching staff, 24 hold doctorate degrees and 6 are studying for their doctorate degrees.
The vision of the School is to produce well-rounded accounting and auditing professionals with an international horizon and practical skill sets, thus contributing to Beijing’s economic growth. Years of practice has shaped the School’s teaching into one emphasizing theory-practice link，experimental teaching combined with practicum as well as whole-person education. The School has made steady progress in internalization. It is committed to the joint education of accounting masters with Australian Deakin University and of international accounting majors with Certified General Accountants Association of Canada (CGA). The course “Financial Accounting” for international accounting majors is rated as a National Model of Bilingual Course. Its undergraduate programs have been accredited by the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants respectively. Students are also encouraged to participate in international exchange programs.
