The College for Urban Economics and Public Administration was founded in2011 when the Urban Studies College changed its name. Its predecessor the Urban Studies College was established in April of 2005 with the combination of the original Department of Public Administration, CUEB Research Institute， and the Fixed Asset Research Institute. The College combines the crossover advantages of the major subject areas of applied economics and public administration. Its number of students, research topics and research budget all rank at the top level of departments for the university, creating a regional and urban economy and public administration professional training site, and it has gradually begun to build distinct advantages to serve the continued construction and development of CUEB.

The College has a well structured and dynamic faculty that is well prepared for academic research, applied research and practical experiments. Outside the well-known professors and scholars from the two main academic programs, there are also a great number of young professors in teaching and research, PhDs returnedfrom well-known universities overseas, with more than 50% professors having either a PhD degree or experience studying abroad, the College has strong development support. As of the end of 2014, the College has 63 faculty members, of them 49 are full time instructors. Of the full time instructors 15 are professors, 24 are assistant professors, 13 are lecturers, 5 are PhD advisers, and 33 or MA advisers. In terms of organizational structure, there are five departments and several research institutes, including the departments of administrative management, urban economic management, department of regional economics, the department of public business management , department of land resources management, the Capital Economic Research Institute,the fixed asset research institute, the institute of industrial and commercial administration, and other research institutions. In terms of academic programs, there are the municipal key academic programs the departments of regional economics and administrative management; two PhD sites in the crossover programs of regional economics and urban economics and strategic management; there are five MA sites for regional economics, administrative management, land resource management, education economics management and urban economics and management (crossover programs); and the master’s in public administration site; there are four bachelor’s degree majors in administrative management, urban management, public business management, and land resources management, as well as two professional directions in regional economic management ( under the urban management major), e-government (under the administrative management major).

Since the founding of the College its core goal has always been leadership training, and it is committed long term to the balanced development of academic research and education and instruction, with excellent results. In terms of academic research, the number of research topics and research budget both rank top among university departments, and has undertaken and completed projects for the National Social Science Research Fund, National Natural Science Fund and other national level projects, in addition to a great number of provincial and ministerial level research projects, its research achievements have earned the respect and affirmation of government departments and academia. It has published a great number of innovative and influential academic books and teaching materials, and published a great number of high-quality academic papers. Its instruction and training has been ranked among the top five for the university over the past 3 years, over the past 2 years 2 classes have been ranked as elite coursework for the university, 7 have been ranked key coursework, 5 textbooks have been ranked as elite textbooks, and 1 has been ranked as elite municipal coursework. At present, there are 908 bachelor’s degree students, and more than 140 master’s and PhD students. It has trained a great number of talented business managers and government administrators that are in high demand for their contributions they make to social development. In recent years, the percentage of students who pursue higher education and study abroad have been steadily increasing, and the percentage of undergraduate students who successful find work applying for the first time has consistently been over 95%, and over 100% for master’s students.

In terms facilities and platform development, the College has the digital city experiment lab, 3D simulation laboratory, urban emergency management comprehensive experiment center and other teaching research platforms; more than 30 off campus internship sites, there are innovative research teams for city internationalization, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regional integration, and urban-rural coordinated development; there is the Beijing social science and natural science coordinated innovation site “Beijing World Cities Research Site with Chinese Characteristics”，the construction of Beijing economic and social policy research base cooperation with the Beijing municipal government , and construction of the CLI research based in cooperation with the Ministry of Land Resources Real Estate Registration Center.

The College places a strong emphasis on service activities, and there is an expert team to close cooperation with government at all levels, industry associations and businesses. There is one is a Counselor of the Beijing Municipal Government , one member of the Fengtai District CPPCC Standing Committee, one is an expert member of the capital city environment construction expert group and government adviser to Xicheng District. These past few years professors have actively participated in many different group jobs at different levels, participated in group activities, CSR, and volunteer activities and other kinds of social service initiatives. It has expanded the Colleges influence, and earned it a good reputation. At the same time it has increased faculties abilities to use their wisdom to serve society, effectively embodying their awareness and ability to serve and contribute to the capital.
