The School of Information  of Capital University of Economics and Business was founded in 1999, its predecessor was the Department of Economic Mathematics of Beijing Economics Institute established in February 1978. In January 1987 the Economic Mathematics Department was renamed as the Department of Economic Information Management. Officially launched in January 1996 the seal of Capital University of Economics and Business, the Economic Information Management Department was renamed the Department of Information Management. In 1999 the school decided to merge the Information Management Department and the Computing Center to establish the School of Information .

After more than 30 years development, at present the School of Information  has a first-class curriculum of doctorate program in Management Science and Engineering, two master degree programs in Management Science and Engineering, Industrial Economics (Information Economy), and three undergraduate majors in Information Management and Information Systems, Computer Science and Technology, Engineering Management. The school consists of three departments of Information Management and Information System, Management Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Technology with a Beijing experimental demonstration center of Management Science and Engineering, the digital innovation platform laboratory, the information management laboratory, the software engineering laboratory, the network practical training laboratory, the computer hardware and systems laboratory and the virtual simulation laboratory.

By September 2011, the school has 55 faculty members, including 39 full-time teachers and 18 laboratory and office staff. Among full-time teachers, there are 8 professors, 15 associate professors and 17 lectures; 22 of them have got the doctor degree, and 4 of them are doing the PhD. Currently there are more than 700 full-time students in the school, including more than 600 undergraduate students and more than 100 postgraduate students.

The school pays great attention to the subject construction and has obtained a series of achievements. In 2003, Industry Economics (Information Economy) was approved as the key subject of Beijing. In 2008, Management Science and Engineering was approved as the key construction subject of Beijing. In 2009, Information Management and Information System was approved as the special major of Beijing and obtained the "Information Theory and Key Problems Research" innovation team of Beijing. In 2011, the first-class curriculum of doctorate program in Management Science and Engineering was approved.

The school adopts various measures to encourage teachers to engage in scientific research work. Since 2005 the school has undertaken 50 different levels and types of projects, including vertical projects, such as National Natural Science Foundation projects: “Study on the Distributed Query Processor for Heterogeneous Data Sources” and “Research on Trust Management in P2P Environment”, Humanities and Social Sciences projects of the Ministry of Education: “Dynamic Model and Computer Simulation of the Evolution of Internet Public Opinion Based on the Current National Conditions” and “Construction Cost Database and Research on Establishment and Application of Enterprise's Quota” and Beijing Philosophy and Social Science project: “Beijing Informatization Evaluation Index System Research Based on Low-carbon Development Strategy”, and horizontal projects, such as “Research on Integrated Technology of Modern Agricultural Industry Engineering and Model—Equipment and Facility Engineering of Agricultural Products Circulation Mode of Technology Integration and Optimization”. Since 2005, 80 works and near 400 articles have been published on different levels and types of publications, including 86 articles indexed by SCI, EI, ISTP and several articles to be indexed.

With a set of multi-subject knowledge such as economics, management science and computer Students of the School of Information  have good job opportunities. Graduates can both engage in the development, manufacture, maintenance work of the economic information management system and have the practical working ability of the analysis, forecasting and decision to economic activities. Graduates throughout the financial and securities institutions, IT industry, State organs, enterprises and institutions, foreign companies and corporations, play a due role for Beijing's economic construction.

Future development goals of the School of Information is to further improve the academic echelon building, strengthen the subject construction, and raise the level of scientific research through positive measures such as the talent recruitment and present staff training. By adhering to the basic mission “based in Beijing, serve Beijing, face the nation, join the world”, and to a high standard of subject and teaching staff construction as a benchmark, to the high quality of education and teaching construction and talents training as the core, the level of core competitive power of our school will reach the standards of the forefront of national economics universities.
