School of Labor Economics

The School of Labor Economics is founded on the basis of the former Department of Labor Economics and Research Institute of Demography & Economics. With a multi-layered education structure and a relatively complete disciplinary system, it has one post-doctoral mobile station in Applied Economics and offers one doctoral program in labor economics, four master’s degree programs in Labor Economics, Social Security, Demography and Environmental Economics, five undergraduate programs in Human Resources Management, International Human Resources Management, Labor and Social Security, Social Work and Labor Relations, as well as correspondence programs for junior college students. Under the School, there are three departments, five research institutes (centers) and the editorial office of Demography and Economics, which is a national core journal. Among the school’s 51 faculty members, 14 are full professors, 18 associate professors, 24 doctors and 7 doctor candidates, and 11 of them are graduates of prestigious overseas universities.

The Department of Labor Economics is the first Chinese faculty that provides education in the discipline of labor economics and since then has always been a frontrunner. In 2007, its Labor Economics was accredited as a National Key Discipline.

Since its foundation, the School has graduated tens of thousands of students, including over 3,000 undergraduates and 300 plus postgraduates. The School’s outstanding alumni are holding important positions in the public sector including one of ministerial rank, seven of vice-ministerial rank and over 100 directors of departments and bureaus. Besides, over 30 alumni are now professors or researchers, over 20 doctoral degree holders. The School has achieved excellence in both teaching and research, and has been actively engaged in international academic exchanges with overseas universities.

The Research Institute of Demography & Economics, founded in 1980, is one of the first demography research institutes in China and has made remarkable contribution on China’s demography research front.
