CUEB Students From School of Statistics Win 2nd Prizes in “Orient Futures Cup” National Students Statistical Modeling Competition

On May 5th, “Orient Futures Cup” National Students Statistical Modeling Competition Final was held in the administration building of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Two teams from the School of Statistics of CUEB entered the final and won the 2nd prizes.

Against the background of “Big Data”, how to fulfill actual business needs through data utilization has been the key research direction of various disciplines, such as mathematics, statistics, etc., and it is also an important way for college students to apply their knowledge. This competition aims to motivate undergraduates to learn statistics and applied statistics, thus to improve their abilities in building statistical models with statistical method, as well as to improve practical problems-solving skills including financial risk management, quantitative strategies and government economic statistics application with the advanced computer technology, which will meet practical needs in the future.

The competition is a public event of statistics application facing both the undergraduates and postgraduates. Since the preparation from November 2017, the competition has been followed by students around China. Nearly 3,000 students from nearly 100 universities participated in the event. After several rounds of selections by the judges, 30 teams entered the final.

Two teams from the School of Statistics of CUEB entered the final. One team was made up by Rui Wenhao, Yao Mohan, Yi Xinhui and Bai Yuanyuan, the other by Chen Jing, Liu Yinghua and Sun Xiaoxiao. Both teams won the 2nd prizes.
