On November 1st, the inaugural session of the Steering Committee for Guidance in Teaching in Higher Educations Institutions 2018-2020 was held in Beijing. Prof. Wang Qing and Ma Jun from the School of Safety and Environmental Engineering were respectively elected as new members in Safety Science & Engineering and Industrial Engineering Commissions.

Chen Baosheng, Party Secretary and Minister of Education, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. He noted that the committee should study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s statement on education and the spirit of National Education Conference. He also encouraged the committee to take “cultivating talents” as its core mission and prioritize the revitalization of undergraduate education system. With enhanced sense of honor and mission, clearer work orientation and full awareness of the urgency, the committee would make great contributions to carrying out intension development of higher education and producing well-rounded socialist builders and successors, noted the minister.

Lin Huiqing, Vice Minister of Education and Member of CPC Leading Group， urged the new committee, as an advisory, steering and oversight organization, to play a constructive role in promoting the reform and development of higher education and improving the quality of personnel training.

Steering Committee for Guidance in Teaching in Higher Educations Institutions, appointed and led by the MOE, serves as a non-permanent academic institution. It is authorized by the MOE to carry out, within its five-year tenure, the research, consultation, guidance, evaluation and supporting services for undergraduate teaching in institutions of higher learning. The exciting achievements made by Prof. Wang and Prof. Ma show that CUEB’s excellent teaching research ability and social influence in its Safety Engineering and Industrial Engineering have been recognized by the academia.

The 2018-2022 committee is the biggest, most inclusive and of the highest standard up to date, covering two comprehensive commissions, 109 subject-specific commissions and 40 subordinates. Meanwhile, it is also the highest-ranking authority at present in talents nurturing.
