CUEB Holds Special Training Course on Enhancing Professional Competence of Counselors
From November 18th to November 20th, a three-day Special Course on Enhancing Professional Competence of Counselors was carried out in CUEB. Sun Haozhe, Vice President of CUEB, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Ma Li, President of Office of Students Affairs presided over the ceremony.
Sun Haozhe pointed out that the Party Committee of CUEB attaches great importance to promoting the counselors to be specialized and professional. Then, he put forward three ardent expectations t: first, counselors should practice the “basic skills” of carrying out the in-depth coaching, thus to consolidate the foundation of students’ work. Second, counselors should train the “essential skills” with distinctive major characteristics, to create a brand that serves the growth of students. Third, counselors should cultivate the “true ability” of solving practical problems that restrict students.
To help new counselors adapt to the work environment, integrate into the work team, and master the job skills, the Office of Student Affairs has launched the “Tutors for Counselor Work” Program. Every year, teachers with rich experience in student work are selected to serve as tutors to give guidance to new counselors through the way of mentoring. This year, five teachers were hired as tutors for the new counselors. Sun Haozhe issued letters of appointment to tutors, and the new teachers were presented with book series 100 Aspects in College Counselors as a gift and took a group photo.
The training is divided into four modules. In the Political Theory Literacy Promotion Module, Fang Tao, an assistant researcher of Academy of Marxism in the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences gave a speech “Looking back to Glorious History, Looking Forward to Better Future”. From the perspective of Party’s history, he interpreted the spirit of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, and emphasized the need to strengthen the education of the “Four Collections of History” so as to better understand the future from the history. In the Core Business Ability Development Module, Zhao Wei, Vice Dean of School of Productivity in China Association of Productivity Promotion Centers, focused on three themes: “Building Competency Model of Counselors”, “Key Methods for Counselor’s Efficiency” and “Improvement for Counselor’s Communication ability”. The methods of improving core business ability are introduced in detail. In the Work Skills Training Modules, “Preparation for working PowerPoint” and other content helped the teacher hone the work skills in the practice. In the Work Experience Sharing Module, the Office of Student Affairs specially organized a “Counselor Reunion” activity. Chen Pujing, a teacher from the College of Business Administration, shared the practical templates and specific methods for doing in-depth counseling work, Zhuan Shoujian and Zhang Ying, teachers from the Office of Student Affairs explained the identification criteria and notes for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and credits for Second Class in CUEB.
The course has helped the counselors improve their political literacy, professional competence and work experience. All the teachers said they had a productive training, and benefited a lot from it. Following the “4321” Matrix training system, the school will continue to organize various types of training activities according to needs of actual work and personal development, so as to promote the specialization and professionalization of counselors.
