New Educational Space! New Check-in Spot in CUEB
On February 24, the third floor of the second dining hall was open to all teachers and students. Han Xianzhou, Secretary of the Party Committee visited the dining hall, in the accompany of Xu Fang and Wu Hui, Deputy Secretaries of the Party Committee, Vice President Li Xiaomu, and Yin Zhichao, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President.
Han Xianzhou pointed out that the operation of the third floor not only expands the dining space for teachers and students but also serves as an important practice to construct the “Three-Wide Education” system (which means all educational workers strive to foster students in all processes and all respects). Han emphasized that all relevant units should work together to enhance the consciousness of service management to give full play to the education function of management, service, and environment. In this way, we can build an enabling education platform to further foster virtues in all aspects of campus life.
The second dining hall covers a total area of approximately 2,000㎡ on the third floor. As planned, it is divided into three functional areas: the lobby dining area, the cafeteria, and the reading & leisure area, fully catering to the working, studying, and living needs of teachers and students. With the support of various departments, the hall is equipped with a piano, books, pictures, plants, and other items for students to enjoy the cultural atmosphere during dining time.
The second dining hall has flavorful food stalls that contain both Western-style meals like fried chicken, burgers, pizza, and pasta, and Chinese local specialties, such as Sichuan, Chongqing, Guangdong, Qiong, and Lu styles. Such a wide range of food meets the differentiated eating habits of teachers and students from different regions. Additionally, the Office of Logistics Services constantly strengthens the training and education of catering service personnel to improve service consciousness and quality in order to foster students through caring and supportive services.
The Communist Youth League Committee fully explored the education function of the new cafeteria, participated in the project's design from the beginning, and carefully integrated the elements of CUEB characteristics to make the cafeteria a cultural center. The center is composed of 1 thematic backdrop, 10 series of display boards, and 25 pictures. The Communist Youth League Committee guides the student organizations to design the display, with themes being updated every month. During the first month, the exhibition showed 25 exceptional pieces shot by the Astronomy Club in its 15th-anniversary celebration activity, capturing the celestial metamorphosis of the sun, moon, and stars. The exhibition offers the students a glimpse into the celestial wonderland, where they could appreciate the magnificence and enchantment of the universe. Also, the exhibition introduces the spirit of the manned space program, the spirit of lunar exploration, and the spirit of BeiDou in the New Era, which are related to space exploration in the CPC’s long line of inspiring principles.
The piano corner at the entrance provides a platform for students to appreciate art and show their style, expanding a new carrier for art education. During meal times, students can enjoy special performances while talented piano-playing students can also register to play a piece.
After the pilot operation, students can also study here during the non-meal time. Three separate student activity rooms are designed on the west side to provide excellent space for academic seminars, regular team meetings, and board game salons after school. Additionally, the large screen on the east side broadcasts live TV programs, such as News Broadcast and Beijing Time, popular sports competitions, etc., and shows outstanding new media works as well.
In the future, the activity center will make good use of important occasions to innovate the form of daily ideological and political education activities. Students can indulge themselves in cultural feasts and spiritual impetus to forge ahead in their campus life.
The KaMo Coffee on the third floor of the second dining hall will work in coordination with the one in Boxue Building, as an incubator of innovation and entrepreneurship in our school.
To serve teachers and students, Party Committee Student Affairs Department encourages more students to commit themselves to innovation and entrepreneurship, and apply the knowledge learned in class, such as product marketing, finance and human resource management, into our career practice. We will make the KaMo Coffee a new Instagram-worthy location and a lively class in students' after-class life.
The comprehensive reform of the “Three-Wide Education” is one of the most important measures for education innovation. Going forward, Party Committee Student Affairs Department, Office of Logistics Services and the Youth League Committee of CUEB will cooperate to explore new ways of education and cultivate an attractive academic atmosphere.
Cheng Kaiwei, full-time counselor of the School of Management and Engineering gave a highly praise: “The delicious food and elegant environment represent our new education ways. This "cultural space" caters to the needs of teachers and students from various aspects, such as service environment, quality and management system, giving a full play to self-education and self-management of our students. More cultural activities are welcomed to enrich the life of teachers and students in this check-in spot.”
He Qi, a 2022 undergraduate of the School of Culture and Communication shared the dining experience: “On Tuesday afternoon, I came here for the first time. A lot of stalls give us plenty of choices, and the environment is really great! The food is exquisite and delicious. I strongly recommend the rice with barbecued pork; the pork is sufficient and juicy. I love it! I hope this could be a new landmark and a new cultural and educational space for teachers and students.”
