On September 3, CUEB held the opening ceremony for the new CUEBers of Grade 2026 at the stadium. Attendees included Liu Ying, CUEB Party Secretary; Wu Weixing, Deputy Party Secretary and President of CUEB, together with other members of the university’s leadership team; and special guests Zhao Chunli, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Head of Fengtai District Government; Ma Yuguo, Principal of the High School Affiliated to Peking University; and Song Dongming, Principal of the High School Affiliated to CUEB.

The ceremony opens with the solemn national anthem.

Liu Ying, on behalf of CUEB, received the oath banner with signatures of the new students. Wang Yiwen from the School of Marxism presented it on behalf of all new students

Wu Weixing warmly greeted the new CUEBers. Using the three mathematical symbols “0, 1, and +∞” as a thread, he sketched out the path and direction of university growth for the students. He encouraged them to embrace the infinite possibilities of university life with a mindset of starting afresh; to take “1” as their foundation, uphold virtue and integrity, and stay true to the fundamental principles of personal conduct and scholarly pursuit, nurturing kindness, reverence, and a sense of responsibility in the subtle choices of daily life; and to set their sights on “+∞”, persevering in deep learning and seizing the compound growth of their university years, devoting themselves to the practice of “strategizing national development and serving the people” and marching toward infinite possibilities amid the torrents of the times.

He noted that over the past seven decades, CUEB’s legacy has been passed down from generation to generation, and the university will always be the most steadfast support for its students. He expected that the students to ground themselves in “humanity” and reach far with “benevolence”, achieve their ideal selves during their time at CUEB, and shoulder their responsibilities in the great practice of Chinese-style modernization, living up to their youth.

Chen Lei, a teacher from the School of Public Finance and Taxation, addressed the students as a faculty representative. She offered her message to the new students from three dimensions: “inheriting the heritage and staying true to the original aspiration”, “embracing digital intelligence and breaking boundaries”, and “renewing the original aspiration and cherishing one’s commitments”. She encouraged the freshmen to stay true to their original aspirations, consolidate their professional foundations, and embrace change, meeting the challenges of the digital-intelligence era with critical thinking and pragmatic innovation, so as to become youth of the new era with moral integrity, broad vision, real competence, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Wu Xingyao, a 2023 undergraduate of the School of Accounting, spoke on behalf of all current students. Drawing on her own growth experience to pursue her studies from Guizhou to Beijing, she shared her reflections on learning and growth at CUEB from three aspects: “cherishing the country and the family, studying diligently and thinking deeply, and exploring boldly”. She encouraged her fellow students to anchor their direction amid the waves of the era, apply what they learn in their pursuit of truth, walk toward the light, and become a glimmer that illuminates the world.

Zhang Chengxiang, a 2026 undergraduate of the School of Economics, spoke on behalf of all undergraduate freshmen. He shared his genuine feelings from the excitement and anticipation of first stepping onto the campus to settling into university life, and stated on behalf of the new students that they would abide by the university motto, inherit the “Camel Spirit”, stay down-to-earth, and study diligently and act with determination, contributing their youthful strength to Chinese-style modernization.

Li Yiming, a 2026 doctoral student of the School of Management and Engineering, spoke on behalf of all new graduate students. Taking “eight years of pursuit with an unwavering aspiration” as her opening, she shared her journey of growth and heartfelt reflections at CUEB from undergraduate to doctoral study, and called on her fellow students to delve deep into their disciplines and innovate boldly during their graduate study, while also integrating knowledge with action and serving society.

During the ceremony, school leaders conferred the CUEB badges on student representatives from each school, and all the new students present pinned the badges on their chests.

The badge serves as identification for “CUEBers” and carries the history and culture of CUEB, embodying the affection of all faculty and students. They are expected to carry forward the responsibility of “upholding virtue, valuing competence, strategizing national development, and serving the people”, and to practice the Camel Spirit of “shouldering responsibilities and pressing forward, staying down-to-earth, and learning broadly with agility”, contributing to the great cause of Chinese-style modernization through their striving youth.

Zhang Di from the School of Business Administration and Xia Zhaoyang from the School of Statistics and Data Science, as representatives of the new students, led all the new students in making a solemn oath facing the university flag.

This year, CUEB once again rolled out its Seven-Color Growth Gifts, including “Extensive Reading”, “Endless Support”, “Tailor-Made Craftsmanship”, “Learning-and-Doing Express”, “Career Pioneer”, “Walking with the Nation”, and “Dynamic Youth”, each carrying profound meaning. Lucky new students selected by random draw will also be paired with university leaders as their growth mentors, enjoying all-round personalized guidance for their growth.

The Seven-Color Growth Gifts are not only tokens of goodwill but also a vivid embodiment of the university’s educational philosophy. It is expected that every new student will cherish this opportunity, hone their abilities, and grow into a well-rounded youth of the era with sound moral grounding, intellectual ability, physical vigor, aesthetic sensibility, and work skills on this fertile land of CUEB.

The ceremony drew to a close amid the resounding singing of the “Ode to the Motherland” sung by all new students.

Present at the ceremony were the heads of all schools and relevant functional departments, all counselors and class advisers of the new students, representatives of faculty and students, and all the new CUEBers of Grade 2026. The ceremony was broadcast live on CUEB’s official WeChat video account, drawing more than 18,000 online views, including some parents of the new students.
