On the afternoon of May 29, Wu Xiaoqiu, a national first-level professor, Changjiang Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education, and former Vice President of Renmin University of China, delivered a keynote report titled “Financial Powerhouse and Capital Market Reform” at the Beijing Digital Economy Seminar. The seminar took place in the Lecture Hall of the Boxue Building. Present at the seminar were President Wu Weixing, Deputy Party Secretary of CUEB, along with other members of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, and Vice Presidents Yin Zhichao, Chen Yanbin, and Li Kunpeng. The seminar was chaired by President Wu.
At the beginning, Wu Xiaoqiu acknowledged the influence and recent achievements of CUEB, expressing a desire for more interaction with CUEB’s faculty and students in the future. Centering around the theme, Wu elaborated on the following three parts: the concept of a financial powerhouse, strategies for its realization, and the development of the capital market. Wu stated that building a financial powerhouse is rewarding yet challenging, which requires adherence to the general principles of marketization, legalization, and internationalization, while following the socialist market economy with Chinese characteristics unswervingly. He emphasized that the construction of a financial powerhouse rests on “two pillars”: enhancing the internationalization and liberalization of CNY, and creating an open and transparent capital market. Moreover, he underlined that a modern financial system relies on a transparent and vigorous capital market, with the accelerated reform and transformation being essential to its development.
In the concluding session, President Wu expressed sincere gratitude to Professor Wu Xiaoqiu for delivering such a profound and enlightening academic report. He emphasized Professor Wu’s pioneering contributions to the theory and practice of China’s capital market, noting his in-depth research on financial structure, risk regulation, internet finance, and personnel cultivation.
