Themed “Gathering Global Talents, Pursuing Win-Win Cooperation,” the 22nd Conference on International Exchange of Professionals (CIEP) took place in Shanghai, co-hosted by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People’s Republic of China and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government. State Councilor Chen Yiqin delivered a speech and officially opened the conference. Wang Xiaoping, Minister of Human Resources and Social Security, and Gong Zheng, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Committee and Mayor of Shanghai, also addressed the audience in the opening ceremony. CIEP gathered over 2,000 attendees, including 1,300 foreign experts from 120 countries and regions, representatives from relevant central government departments, universities, local foreign expert affairs departments, employers of foreign experts, and employer representatives. CUEB also invited 60 foreign experts, including Scott Rozelle, Professor of Stanford University as well as Winner of the Chinese Government Friendship Award; Fang Lee Cooke, Academician of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia; John Stachurski, Fellow of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory; Sutou Masayuki, Vice President of Shiga University; and 20 CUEB faculty and student representatives.

CIEP is China’s largest international platform for professionals, featuring 32 venues and 48 exchange events this year. Among these, CUEB held two events: Technological Progress, Organizational Change, and Labor Market Trends, and Fin-Tech, Digital Economy, and Big Data Application Frontier.

The “Technological Progress, Organizational Change, and Labor Market Trends” event was jointly organized by the School of Labor Economics, the School of Urban Economics and Public Administration, and the International School of Economics and Management. Chen Yanbin, member of the Party Committee Standing Committee and Vice President of CUEB, greeted the attendees. Nie Shengkui, Director of the Department of Foreign Expert Services at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, delivered a speech. Additionally, nine foreign experts presented reports on the impact of technological progress on organizational restructuring, labor market structural adjustments, and workforce skill enhancement.

The “Fin-Tech, Digital Economy, and Big Data Application Frontier” event was jointly organized by the School of Finance, the School of Economics, the School of Statistics, the International School of Economics and Management, and the Innovation and Talent Base for Fin-Tech and Financial Econometrics. Yin Zhichao, member of the Party Committee Standing Committee and Vice President of CUEB, greeted the attendees. Then ten foreign experts presented reports on the influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on economic development, scientific research and the cutting-edge development of economic and financial theories and practices.

Exchange Event: “Fin-Tech, Digital Economy, and Big Data Application Frontier”

During CIEP, the School of Labor Economics, the School of Finance, and the Innovation and Talent Base for Fin-Tech and Financial Econometrics respectively held “The International Forum on Labor and Livelihood (2024)”, “Telling Chinese Stories, Discussing International Studies: International Journal Exchange Conference”, “CUEB - Lancaster University Scholars Forum”, and “International Scholars Research and Exchange Conference.” Additionally, three roundtable forums were organized: “How Artificial Intelligence Is Transforming Economic Research: A Review of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Economics”, “Promoting Higher Quality of Chinese Economic Research”, and “Exploration of the Frontier of Digital Economy”.

CUEB was honored to participate in this pivotal national diplomatic event, organized by the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange. This involvement not only demonstrated the university’s commitment to the “Silk Road” initiative outlined in the Fifth Party Congress, but also served as a strategic move to enhance its academic standing. Through the event, CUEB showcased its academic programs and further expanded its global influence.
