On Dec. 12th, the founding conference of CUEB Overseas Returned Scholars Association was held at press conference hall in the Boyuan Building. Tao Qinghua, Vice President of Beijing Returned Overseas Chinese Federation (BROCF) and President of Beijing Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars Federation (BROCSF), Zhang Meng, Director of Non-Party Intellectuals Work Office of the United-Front Work Department of Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC (BMCCPC), Li Dan, Deputy Director of The United-Front and Mass Work Department of Education Work Committee of Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC, Feng Pei, Party Secretary of CUEB, and Yu Zhong, Party Committee member and the Director of Organization Department of CUEB, attended the conference. Xing Qi, Party Committee member and Director of the United-Front Work Department, presided over the conference.

On the conference, Yu Zhong read out the Decision on the Foundation of CUEB Overseas Returned Scholars Association by the Party committee of CUEB. Afterwards, Liu Wei, Deputy Director of the United-Front Work Department of the Party committee of CUEB, briefed on the preparations leading up to the set-up of the association. 

The conference passed the Charter of CUEB Returned Overseas Scholars Association and elected the president, vice president, secretary general, and deputy secretary general of the first council. The members were subsequently granted letters of appointment.

Afterwards, Liu Wenchuan, the first President of the BROCSF, Executive Vice President of International School of Economic Management, delivered a speech.

Zhang Meng extended warm congratulations on the foundation of the CRSA. He pointed out that the establishment of the association is an important step in pushing ahead the efforts to unite returned scholars, reflecting the emphasis put on overseas returnees by the Party committee of the university. He also raised three proposals in terms of the development of the association.

Feng Pei, on behalf of the Party committee of CUEB, expressed gratitude to the United-Front Work Department of BMCCPC, Education Work Committee of BMCCPC, BROCF, and BROCSF for their guidance and support, and extended warmest congratulations on the foundation of the association. As Feng Pei put, the establishment of the association is a concrete measure to implement the spirit of the speech made by General Secretary Xi Jinping on the 100th anniversary of Western Returned Scholars Association (WRSA), as well as decisions and arrangements on united-front work from the central government, BMCCPC, and Education Work Committee of BMCCPC. Furthermore, the association is also an imperative to achieve the Three-step Strategic Goal put forward by the party congress of CUEB. He advanced three expectations on the future of the association.

Xing Qi encouraged relevant functional departments and Party organizations at all levels to pay attention to and support the development of the ssociation by guiding the overseas-educated returned scholars to share a common goal and work together with the Party committee of the university. Thus, they can gather their strengths to forge CUEB into China’s first-class and worldly-renowned university of finance and economics.

After the conference, Tao Qinghua made a keynote speech entitled Perfect Morality, Brave Responsibilities — Serve for China’s Socioeconomic Development by Inheriting the Tradition of Returned Brains Devoting to the Motherland.
