CUEB Holds Meeting to Promote Development of Applied Economics Discipline
On May 31, CUEB held a meeting to promote the development of Applied Economics. Attendees included President Wu Weixing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee; Xu Fang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee; Yin Zhichao, Chen Yanbin, and Li Kunpeng, members of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice Presidents. The meeting was presided over by Chen Yanbin.
After listening to the reports, Wu Weixing put forward three requirements: First, all schools should attach great importance to the development of Applied Economics program, and benchmark universities included in the “double first-class project” to identify problems and offer solutions. Second, the Personnel Office, the Office of Research and the Discipline Construction Office should establish a corresponding incentive mechanism and design systems in terms of professional titles promotion, research awards, and fund allocation to build a high-level research team, performing organized researches and discipline construction well. Third, schools should establish a sense of mission, conform to the discipline evaluation standards to map out a clear strategy, assign concrete tasks, and ensure fair rewards and punishments.
Xu Fang emphasized the importance of supporting initiatives such as attracting high-level personnel, applying for organized teaching awards, recognizing ideological and political achievements, and adjusting personnel levels. These efforts aim to bring forth new breakthroughs in the strong disciplines.
Yin Zhichao highlighted that all school deans should truly understand the standards of the Ministry of Education’ s discipline evaluation and Shanghai Ranking evaluation. Tasks should be clarified and work should be advanced based on the above criteria, thus promoting the development of discipline.
Chen Yanbin emphasized the importance of all schools firmly implementing the work requirements. Given a tight schedule and heavy workloads, schools need to set goals, address shortcomings and leverage strengths. This approach ensures data-driven decisions, effective measures and organized research.
Li Kunpeng stressed that the meeting aims to identify problems and weaknesses that need targeted measures. He noted that the need for more attention to the journal paper quality and ideological and political honors.
Fan Qingquan, Deputy Director of the Development Planning Office and the Discipline Construction Office, presented the index data of each school from two evaluation cycles, four evaluation dimensions and six key indicators according to the discipline evaluation form, and analyzed the development trend of the CUEB’s Applied Economics program.
