Lecture on Peking Opera Culture Held by School of International Education

On April 24th, a lecture on Peking Opera culture was held by the School of International Education. The lecture aimed to carry forward traditional Chinese culture, enrich the extracurricular life of international students, and deepen the students’ love for Chinese culture.  Liang Xi, a member of China Theatre Association and Visiting Professor of National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, was invited as the keynote speaker.

He Li, Party Secretary of School of International Education, introduced the accomplishments of Liang Xi in Peking Opera, and CUEB’s efforts in extracurricular nurturing of international students in CUEB. Wang Shaoguo, Dean of the School of International Education, awarded a visiting professor certificate to Liang Xi. The instrumentalist of the Jingju Theatre Company of Beijing played the Huqin, a Chinese zither. A student from National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts won the applause of the international students with a sonorous and crisp vocal performance.

Liang Xi introduced the history and the basic skills of Peking Opera in detail, with videos of costumes and famous artists of Peking Opera as examples. Afterwards, the international students studied the Peking Opera under the guidance of teachers, and had fun imitating the singing and movements.

 

The lecture was an important part of “Chinese Traditional Culture Classroom” of School of International Education. The intrigued international students expressed their hope to have more opportunities to participate in the activities of studying Chinese traditional culture.

 

Zhu Hong, the Assistant Dean of School of International Education, attended the activity. Besides, there were 18 international students participating in the activity.
