CUEB International Students Peking Opera Club Opens

On the afternoon of June 27th, the opening ceremony of CUEB International Students Peking Opera Club was held at the Conference Center of the 12th Building of the School of International Education.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Liang Xi, Vice President of the Economic Daily Press and Visiting Professor of CUEB. Wang Shaoguo, Dean of the School of International Education, Ma Mingqun, prestigious Peking Opera artist, educator, former Deputy Dean of the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts and consultant of CUEB International Student Peking Opera Club, and Li Men, Famous Jinghu (a Chinese Zither) Instrumentalist, Peking Opera musician, first-class performer of the National Peking Opera Company, made keynote speeches respectively. He Li, Secretary of Party Branch of the School of International Education, announced the establishment and opening of CUEB International Students Peking Opera Club.

In order to promote Chinese traditional culture and deepen the understanding and experience of international students on Chinese national quintessence, the School of International Education decided to establish the Peking Opera Club for international students who were interested in it. With the strong support of the leaders of the School, cooperation of various departments and enthusiasm of the students, CUEB International Students Peking Opera Club, after months of intense preparation, finally opened on June 27th.

After the brief opening ceremony, the prestigious artists gave a brief introduction of the basic knowledge of Peking Opera, five types of roles in Peking Opera and accompaniment and music knowledge to the members of club.

Later, Yan Wenqian, Outstanding Young Performer of the Tianjin Jingju Theatre Company, showed the classic arias of various roles of Peking Opera. Then, according to their own interest, the students chose their mentors and had their first try of Peking opera. The students learned very carefully, had fun and imitated the singing and movements. The talents shown by the international students in the Peking Opera also surprised the teachers.

Finally, accompanied by the dean and secretary, Ma Mingqun, Li Men and teachers visited the Quyi classroom that was under construction. The two consultants made suggestions on the layout of the Quyi classroom.

16 students in the first class of International Students Peking Opera Club come from 10 countries, including Antigua and Barbuda, Russia, Laos, Liberia, Mozambique, Namibia, Japan, Thailand, Vanuatu and Uzbekistan.
