Student Cheng Ting of CUEB Donates Hematopoietic Stem Cell to Pass Love and Care
On October 28th, gusts of autumn wind made people feel cold, but it was warm in the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Room at Air Force General Hospital.
At 8:00 a.m., Cheng Ting, a student from the School of Economics, CUEB, finished her preparations and lay quietly in bed next to a stem cell separator. Wang Jun, dean of the School of Economics, Cai Bin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Zhang Yanhua, secretary of the Party branch of the University Hospital, and others also came to visit Cheng Ting at the bedside. When the teachers asked her about her condition, "Today is the happiest day for me, " Cheng said with a smile, "because I saw that my Hematopoietic stem cell is being collected and separated and will soon be delivered to the patient who is desperately waiting for help. I'm fine. Teachers, students and the Red Cross workers have come to see me, I feel very warm."
“Cheng Ting is the 3rd Hematopoietic stem cell donor of our school, the 16th in Fengtai District, the 371st in Beijing and the 9071st in China,” said Zhang Yanhua. She added that Cheng has actively participated in blood donation activities organized by CUEB every year since she entered the school in 2017, and has also taken the initiative to donate blood components at the Beijing Red Cross Blood Center.
In 2017, shortly after enrollment, Cheng Ting saw the Red Cross coming to the school to spread Hematopoietic stem cell knowledge. She didn't hesitate to register in China Marrow Donor Program(CMDP), filled out a consent form for a voluntary Hematopoietic stem cell and left a blood sample. In this July, Cheng Ting received a notification from the Beijing Red Cross that her white blood cell antigen had been matched with a patient." Upon receiving the notification, I did not hesitate, especially after the completion of the physical examination, high-resolution typing and so on, and I learned the depth match was successful. I became more determined and looked forward to the continuation of a life with my help," Cheng said.
Doctors said that the bone marrow reserve is very strong. Just like blood donation, the donated hematopoietic stem cells are only a small part of the body's reserve, and can regenerate quickly, at most two or three weeks to return to normal.
Hematopoietic stem cell is a safe and effective treatment for leukemia, aplastic anemia and other blood diseases at home and abroad. "I hope the patient, whom I have never met before, will recover soon, " Cheng said. Wang Jun said that Cheng Ting's noble deeds reflected her selfless dedication and courage to take responsibility, and hoped that more young people would join in this cause.
Cheng Ting, from Liupanshui, Guizhou Province, is an undergraduate enrolled in 2017 in the economics class 1 of School of Economics. Cheng Ting has been serving as a class commissary in charge of studies. In the eyes of students, she is warm-hearted. In school, Cheng Ting actively participated in voluntary blood donation activities. Only within two years, she has participated in two whole blood and one component blood donations to help the strangers in need of love.
