CUEB Students in School of Foreign Studies Attends Volunteer Services of the 5th China Africa Youth Festival
On October 26th, the 5th China Africa Youth Festival was kicked off in the China Sonng Ching Ling Science & Culture Centre for Young People. CUEB volunteers in School of Foreign Studies, as the only professional team being invited, attended the whole activities held in Beijing and completed the missions of professional translation and communication services.
The 5th China Africa Youth Festival was sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province. Themed as “Consolidate Youth Dreams and Create a New Era of China-Africa Relation----Youth in China and Africa to Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC)”, the 5th China Africa Youth Festival aims to provide a communication platform, continues the traditional friendship between China and Africa and creates a future for common development of both China and Africa youth.
The schedule of the 5th China Africa Youth Festival was divided into Beijing and Jiangxi parts. Among them, Beijing consisted of 5 activities such as the Opening Ceremony of the 5th China Africa Youth Festival, roundtable talks between China and Africa Youth, China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage experience, welcome reception and visit of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and discussion with CPPCC members. Before the 5th China Africa Youth Festival, 10 language volunteers of the School of Foreign Studies of CUEB were sent to attend the Volunteer Training Meeting for Foreign Affairs. In the meeting, Han Tianyi, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the School of Foreign Studies, put forward some requirements on volunteer works and emphasized on the consciousness of stepping into the breach and sense of discipline, encouraged them to practice volunteerism and brought honor to CUEB.
From October 25th to 27th, the activities planned in Beijing of the 5th China Africa Youth Festival were implemented in order. Volunteers of CUEB won praise from the related people of China Africa Youth Festival in terms of their high sense of responsibility, excellent language quality and careful translation and guidance in activities like reception of foreign guests, preparation and participation in the opening ceremony, consecutive interpretation of roundtable talks, foreign guests leading to experience the production of China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage, Welcome Reception and visit on CPPCC. Especially in the activity of experience of the production of Intangible Cultural Heritage held on October 26th, volunteers of the School of Foreign Studies led Chinese and African youth to experience Traditional Chinese Medicine, Beijing Opera, Wood Carving, Tea Ceremony, embroidery, Gagaku, Printing and Dyeing, handicraft manufacture of thread-bound book as well as other projects and delivered professional translation of some traditional words in the way of faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance. Youth in Africa closely learned Chinese culture and had a taste of the unique charm of excellent Chinese traditional culture.
The School of Foreign Studies, the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and the China Sonng Ching Ling Science & Culture Centre for Young People reached an agreement to deepen cooperation in terms of intern, professional volunteer service and common development of Party and Youth League, thus to contribute to the cultivation of versatile and practical foreign language talents of economics and business with international vision.
