On December 21st, Han Xianzhou, Party Secretary of CUEB, and his delegation attended the First National Seminar on Ideological and Political Development of Higher Education and the Founding of Ideological and Political Union for Colleges and Universities of Finance and Economics, at which Han Xianzhou delivered a keynote speech. Also present at the meeting were the faculties in Academic Affairs Office and Department of Teachers’ Work.

This seminar and the founding of Ideological and Political Union were initiated and established by more than 30 colleges and universities in Finance and Economics, including  University of International Business and Economics, Central University of Finance and Economics, Capital University of Economics and Business, Beijing Technology and Business University, Dongbei University of Finance & Economics, Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, Shandong University of Finance and Economics, Zhejiang University of Finance & Economics, etc. CUEB was elected as one of the Executive Directors of the Union.

In this meeting, more than 100 people, including leaders of above-mentioned universities and colleges, directors of functional departments, leaders of second-class teaching units/independent colleges and front-line professional teachers attended the meeting.

There are four agendas. The first agenda is the inaugural ceremony of Ideological and Political Union of National Colleges and Universities of Finance and Economics. The agenda is chaired by Xia Wenbin, President of University of International Business and Economics. Jiang Qingzhe, Party Secretary of University of International Business and Economics delivered a welcoming speech to the guests. Xu Qingsen, Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, and Di Tao, Deputy Secretary of the Education Commission of Beijing Committee of the CPC, delivered speeches in the meeting. Wang Yaoqi, President of the Central University of Finance and Economics, delivered a speech on behalf of sister institutions.

Subsequently, the guests together inaugurated for the Founding of Ideological and Political Union of National Colleges and Universities of Finance and Economics.

The second agenda was chaired by Zhang Guocai, Secretary General of the Higher Financial & Economic Education Branch of China Higher Education Association, the keynote speeches were delivered by Li Zhongjie, former Deputy Director of the Party History Research Center of the CPC Central Committee; Xia Wenbin, President of University of International Business and Economics; Han Xianzhou, Party Secretary of Capital University of Economics and Business; Zhao Zhongxiu, President of Shandong University of Finance and Economics; Li Zhixiong, Parth Secretary of  Chongqing Technology and Business University; and Dong Zhaowei, Party Secretary of Hebei University of Economics and Business. With the theme of “Deepening Construction of Ideological and Political Education, Carrying out Fundamental Mission of Cultivating Virtues and Morality”, Han Xianzhou, Party Secretary of CUEB, discussed three questions: “Why do we pay attention to the ideological and political education?” “What is the ideological and political education about?” and “How can we do well in the ideological and political education?” He systematically expounded his understandings of ideological and political education, that is, the main channel of ideological and political education in colleges and universities should be extended from ideological and political courses to all courses; ideological and political education needs to go from the individual, fragmented and spontaneous style to the organized, systematic and self-conscious one. Han Xianzhou also emphasized that it is necessary to form a high-level personnel training system and improve the teachers’ competence to have a comprehensive understanding of ideological and political education, so as to achieve long-term effects.

The third agenda was communication among participants. Wu Weixing, Vice President of University of International Business and Economics, Jiang Kun, Vice President of Harbin Finance University hosted three salons themed as “Systemically Advance in Top-level Design” respectively and discussed thoughts and highlights about the development of ideological and political education in universities and colleges of finance and economics with more than 10 university leaders, including Central University of Finance and Economics, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Harbin University of Commerce, Shandong Technology and Business University, Inner Mongolia University of Finance and Economics, Nanjing University of Finance & Economics.

Liao Guoqiong, Director of Academic Affairs Office of Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics hosted an exchange meeting themed as “Study and Communication Hand in Hand”. Sun Hua, Director of Center for Excellent Teaching and Learning, Peking University, Jiang Xianling, Director of Academic Affairs Office of University of International Business and Economics, Jing Tingru, Director of Academic Affairs Office of Anhui University of Finance and Economics were invited to discuss the specific measures to promote the development of ideological and political education. Therefore, the meeting can provide opportunities to universities and colleges to discuss, study with each other and contribute more to the Ideological and Political Education Union of National Colleges and Universities of Finance and Economics.

At the end of the meeting, President Xia Wenbin delivered concluding remarks.

The foundation of Ideological and Political Union of National Colleges and Universities of Finance and Economics is supported by Higher Financial & Economic Education Branch of China Higher Education Association, as well as other 30 universities and colleges of finance and economics. The Union not only provides a communication platform for the development of ideological and political education of universities and colleges of finance and economics, but also lays a good foundation for the cooperation of these universities and colleges. CUEB, as an Executive Director of the Union, will promote the development of ideological and political education together with sister institutions and build ideological and political education development mechanism in these universities and colleges with Chinese characteristics. Thus, CUEB can make due contributions to the fundamental mission of fostering virtues through education.
