Embarking on a New Journey: Advice from First Alumni Symposium for Celebrating the 65th Anniversary of CUEB
On May 12, the first alumni symposium for celebrating the 65th anniversary of CUEB was held in Tianlang Hall of Boyuan Building. Alumni discussed the “14th Five-Year Plan” for CUEB development and offered constructive suggestions for Alma Mater and alumni work. Ding Lihong, Vice President of CUEB presided over the meeting.
Zhang Jian, alumnus of Grade 1994, said draft of the “14th Five-Year Plan”, formal in style, fits well the actual situation of CUEB. He suggested to develop our strength in cultivating practice-oriented talents and to take measures step-by-step to meet the long-range objectives through the year of 2035. Yuan Jiafang, alumnus of Grade 1978, suggested that CUEB make efforts to build CUEB into a "Research-oriented University" guaranteed by administrative management and research evaluation, and coordinate journal & book publishing, thesis writing and teacher ethics construction with "engineering thinking". Pan Fan, alumnus of Grade 1977, advised CUEB to further quantify implementation measures and to set up periodic goals with distinguishing features. Han Xiaochen, alumnus of Grade 2007, gave four suggestions: focus on the frontier research in discipline construction, cater to the needs of all members, including students, in management, set up projects in alumni development and conduct rigorous evaluation in research management. Fu Xuedong, alumnus of Grade 1980, spoke highly of the commitment to society proposed in the Plan, and suggested to develop competences to serve the society in terms of the management system, resource allocation, evaluation and other aspects.
What’s more,, written suggestions on strengthening innovation and civil service, deepening CUEB-Alumni cooperation and improving curriculum were submitted by some alumni, including Shen Jianjun, former Party Secretary of CUEB, Liu Xuemin, an Industrial Economics major of Grade 1980 and Chairman of First Capital Securities Co. Ltd., Wang Lei, an Economics major of Grade1980 and Vice President of CUEB Alumni Association, and Zhang Nan, founder and CEO of Beijing Southwester Information Technology Co. Ltd. and a major in in Economic Information Management of Grade 1986.
Zhao Xiling, Director of Office of Cooperation Affairs and Vice President and Secretary of Alumni Association emphasized the important role of alumni in CUEB’s development. She stressed that CUEB is going to have a further and wider union of alumni for a better development and greater service to the society.
On behalf of CUEB, Ding Lihong expressed gratitude for alumni’s great concern and valuable suggestions. He said that these suggestions were important for CUEB’s development in the future. Ding pointed out that by observing the law of education, CUEB shall make clear of proper direction, adhere to the original aspirations, and make a long-term plan with distinguishing features of its own. Finally, Ding invited all alumni to come back CUEB to celebrate the 65th anniversary.
This marks the beginning of a series of symposiums focusing on CUEB development to celebrate the 65th anniversary. These symposiums aim to unite alumni and all walks of life, gather wisdom and strength for high-quality development in the period of the “14th Five-Year Plan”.
