Zhou Bingde Delivered Keynote Report on “Maintaining Zhou Enlai Spirit and Revolutionary Culture”
On the afternoon of June 2, a keynote report on learning CPC history was held in Zhuoyu Auditorium Hall, Boyuan Building. Zhou Bingde, niece of Premier Zhou Enlai, former Vice President of China News Service and President of Enlai Foundation, was invited to deliver a special report on “Maintaining Zhou Enlai Spirit and Revolutionary Culture”. Xu Fang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of CUEB, Wang Chuansheng, member of the Party Standing Committee and Vice president of CUEB, Xing Qi, member of the Party Standing Committee and Director of the United Front Work Division, middle-level leading cadres of CUEB and representatives of teachers and students of the School of Foreign Studies attended the report. The report was presided over by Han Xianzhou, Party Secretary of CUEB.

Zhou Bingde reviewed Premier Zhou Enlai's life of strict self-discipline, integrity and selflessness, always following a people-centered philosophy from five aspects, namely, sharing weal and woe with the people, keeping a simple life and scrupulous in separating public from private interests, sparing no special treatment for relatives, prioritizing national interests, and staying true to original aspiration. In the report, Zhou vividly showed the Premier’s work, family and life through a large number of historical facts, stories and pictures of personal experience. When talking about sticking together through thick and thin with the people, Zhou told us the Premier went into the front lines in the national water conservancy, earthquake-stricken areas, "Two bombs and one satellite" work and northeast energy construction, and in caring for the livelihood of the people in details. Then, Zhou showed the Premier's life with his elders, friends and wife, and his integrity, diligence and simplicity in terms of food, clothing, housing, transportation and entertainment. Zhou Bingde, taking the experiences of her own and the relatives as examples, recalled that the Premier had never abused his authority for private affairs, especially for his relatives.

Then, Zhou Bingde quoted the Premier as saying, “we are ready to sacrifice ourselves through decades of revolutionary work! The struggles of countless revolutionary forefathers brought about the birth of the People's Republic of China. We are only ‘survivors’ now.” Zhou told about the life-long dedication of people around the Premier to the Party and to the country. At the end of the report, Zhou reviewed the Premier’s ambition of “studying for the rise of China” when he was a juvenile. He established the belief in communism in his youth, and practiced the oath of “serving the people” all his life. She shared the strong belief Premier Zhou wrote for his classmate at the age of 19, that is, “wish to meet when China takes off in the world”. Standing at the historical intersection of Two Centenary Goals, General Secretary Xi Jinping said that we are closer to the goal of national rejuvenation than any other time in history. At this time, rereading this strong belief by Premier Zhou is more moving. When the report ended, there was a big round of applause.
Han Xianzhou stressed that Comrade Zhou Bingde’s report is full of lofty ideals, rich connotations and profound thoughts, which brings a vivid lesson of Party history to teachers and students. At present, the whole Party is carrying out Party history learning in an all-round way with the emphasis on study and practice. Family tradition is an everlasting topic in the centennial Party history. Building a sound family tradition is an important task for the Chinese Communists, especially for Party members. Party members should keep integrity, get self-cultivation and form a well-managed family, which are conducive to the pure and proper style of the Party and the government and to the promotion of customs and morals of the people. Party members in universities shoulder the mission of fostering character and civic virtue. We should play a leading role in establishing sound family traditions and strive to nurture all-round socialist builders and successors. All Party members should deeply understand the lofty spirit, noble morality and great manner of Premier Zhou's excellent family tradition, learn from the revolutionaries and model figures of the elder generation, and inherit excellent family tradition to “prioritize the nation and the people”. We should stay true to the Party’s founding mission, implement the fundamental task to foster character and civic virtue through education in order to cultivate talents to rise up to the mission of national rejuvenation, prosperity and people’s well-being.

After the report, Han Xianzhou accompanied Zhou Bingde and her partners to visit CUEB History Museum, and visit the Gaoqi library inscribed by Deng Yingchao and the ecological and natural literature library in the library.

After listening to the report, teachers and students said that they are deeply moved and inspired by stories of the Premier’s family tradition, and will practice these valuable revolutionary family traditions in daily life.
