On the morning of September 10th, CUEB held an awards conference with the theme of "Inheriting centennial original aspiration, shouldering mission of talent cultivation", and solemnly celebrated the 37th Teacher's Day with offline and online conferences. CUEB leadership and members of the Party Standing Committee attended the conference. Leaders of departments, the representatives of awarding, retired faculty members in 2021, faculty members who have been a teacher for over 30 years, new staff and students attended the conference. Deputy Party Secretary Xu Fang presided over the conference.

The conference kicked off with the national anthem of China.

Han Xianzhou, Party Secretary, delivered a speech. On behalf of the CUEB Party Committee and Administration, he extended sincere greetings to all faculty who worked hard in education, scientific research, management and service positions in the past year, and expressed heartfelt wishes to retired comrades. Party Secretary Han emphasized that the year 2021 is of particular importance to China as it pursues the modernization drive, marking the centenary of the CPC and the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan period. It is also the year in which China embarks on the great journey toward all-round modernization. At the same time, it is a turning point for higher education to fully focus on quality.

Mr. Han pointed out that in the past year, the CUEB Party Committee and Administration have continuously implemented Xi Jinping’s important expositions on education, focusing on fostering character and civic virtue and high quality development, driven by the reform and innovation. In order to advance the goal of the high-level research university construction in Beijing, we made great efforts to coordinate the control and prevention of COVID-19 and the development of CUEB, fully promote the reform of the “Three Aspects Education”, namely, the integrity of all staff, whole process and all-around education, and firmly advance strict governance of the Party. Finally, a series of achievements were made.

Facing the new situation, stage and requirements of the development of higher education, Han Xianzhou stressed that we should always adhere to “the Three Adherence”. First, we should adhere to foster character and civic virtue. We should fully understand the era value of ideological and political theories teaching in all courses from height, depth and breadth, and improve the pertinence and effectiveness of fostering character and civic virtue, so as to build a pattern of all-round education of the whole staff. Focusing on strengthening the ideological and political course construction, we should effectively internalize fostering character and civic virtue into all fields of school construction and management. For teachers, we should not only master the methods of carrying out ideological and political courses, but also improve our understanding of the course and practice that understanding. We should take ideological and political course as an important aspect to improve teachers' teaching ability. Second, we should adhere to reform and innovation. We should pay more attention to the independent cultivation of talents, and to the cultivation of scientific spirit, innovation ability and critical thinking. 2021 is a year of strengthening the reconstruction of scientific education innovation in colleges and universities, and also a year of deepening the reform of educational evaluation in the new era. We should fully understand the new characteristics and tasks of deepening the reform, comprehensively promote the reform through deepening the “Complete Education for Overall Students in all Respects” (namely, the integrity of all staff, whole process and all-round education, so as to fully foster character and civic virtue) and the institutional reform of teachers' professional title, and promoting the implementation of the newly revised undergraduate and graduate talent training program, so as to add impetus to the high-quality development of CUEB. Third, we should adhere to connotative development. As a Beijing municipal key university, especially as a municipal high-level research university, we should always adhere to serving the national strategy and the development of the capital city to continuously improve the efficiency of serving the economic and social development of Beijing. CUEB should further strengthen the dynamic adjustment of disciplines and majors, actively promote the enrollment and cultivation of general categories, strengthen the ideological and political course construction, actively focus on the construction of "Two Zones" (namely, Comprehensive Demonstration Zone for Expanding Opening-up of National Service Industry & Beijing Pilot Free Trade Zone) and "Three Platforms" (namely, China International Fair for Trade in Services, Zhongguancun  Forum and Financial Street Forum) in Beijing, constantly strengthen the construction of teaching staff, so as to form a strong joint force to promote the connotative development of CUEB.

Finally, Han put forward three expectations for all teaching and administrative staff. First, to observe the teachers’ ethics rather than touching its bottom line. All faculties should stand firm in their ideal and conviction and be a strong champion of professional ethics and socialism with Chinese characteristics, so as to maintain stricter discipline and conduct, political integrity and a vigorous campus environment. Second, to stay true to the original aspiration of cultivation. Teachers should work as exemplary educators leading students to learn, work and behave towards comprehensive talents. Administrative staff, as well, should focus on their duty to create an atmosphere in accordance with the concept of cultivation during management. Third, to polish and stick to intellectual insights. Faculty should keep accumulating knowledge and focusing on practical research based on the world’s academic front and China’s major demand, thus improving the academic atmosphere among colleges and universities and furthering the cause of scientific research and social service in Beijing.

After the speech, 32 newly-recruited members of faculty took an oath in front of the school flag as the start of their teaching journey, determining to stay true to the original aspiration and the oath of devotion to education. 

The speech was followed by a retirement ceremony to send gratitude to faculty who retired in 2021 for their selfless dedication to CUEB’s construction. Han, together with CUEB President Fu Zhifeng, honored representative retirees with the “Commemorative Medal of Service”. 

Han and Fu also honored teachers for committing to education for over three decades with certificates of commendation. 

Later, Deputy Party Secretary Wu Hui and Vice President Ding Lihong awarded memorial trophies to winners of the first national evaluation of textbook building, course demonstration groups, famous teachers and teams of ideological and political education advocated by the Ministry of Education (MOE), and candidates of the first MOE New Liberal Arts Research and Reform Practice Project. 

Vice President Wang Chuansheng and Sun Haozhe honored memorial trophies to Beijing Outstanding Teachers, Beijing Distinguished Young Teachers and the winners of Outstanding Achievements of the 16th Beijing Philosophy and Social Science.

Chen Caiqun, Secretary of Discipline Inspection Commission, Xing Qi, member of the CUEB Party Standing Committee and Director of United Front Work Department, awarded memorial trophies to the winners of the 12th Beijing Teaching Competition for Young University Teachers.

Later, attendees of the meeting celebrated the 37th Teachers' Day by watching a feature movie of "Inheriting the centennial original aspiration and shouldering the mission of talents cultivation", which was jointly produced by the Publicity Department and Teachers’ Affairs Office of the Party Committee. Since 2020, under the leadership of the Party Committee, CUEB has systematically advanced the reform of the “Three Aspects Education”, namely, the integrity of all staff, whole process and all-around education with Ideological and Political Course Construction as the carrier, and actively implemented the fundamental task of fostering character and civic virtue through education so as to make a series of achievements. All those in the video showed the spirit of having unified love for the country and the CPC and keeping benevolent and dedication of CUEB teachers.

In the activity of "Telling our Education Story", Professor Yu Peng, the representative of Gu Fenling's team and the one who was selected as the Ideological and Political demonstration course "Auditing" of the Ministry of Education, gave a speech entitled “Making auditing lively”. Professor Li Jing, the representative of the guidance team of graduates, took the title of "Building a learning community under the help of tutor". The counselors, Wang Lu, Sun Chen, Sun Lei and Zhao Xun, presented the titles of "Accompanying with Love under the sincere protection", "You believe in me, which is the most important little thing", "Cultivating the flower of youth with the beauty of art" and "Stepping forward to embrace talents with virtue" respectively. Tao Ying, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office, on behalf of the management and service staff, took the theme of "Taking responsibility on shoulder to foster virtue and put mission into practice". They shared touching stories on their posts, fully showing the professional ethics of dedication, stand and deliver of teachers.

Teachers are as warm as sunshine in spring when they teach students and the love of teachers to students is as deep as the ocean. CUEB dance troupe congratulated the teachers on Teachers’ Day with a dance “Flowers are blooming in riot of color” expressing students’ deep gratitude to teachers.

In accordance to the request of epidemic prevention and control, this year’s Teachers’ Day should be simple. In addition to set the main venue in Zhuoyu Auditorium Hall, every department also set its own parallel session to watch the live broadcast of the Teachers’ Day commendation meeting.

The meeting closed with the loud melody of “Ode to the Motherland” sung by attendees. 

It was reported that the Party Committee of CUEB organized “Work Ethics Culture Month”, sincerely carrying out the learning of the Party history and work ethics for teachers to celebrate the 37th Teachers’ Day in various forms to meet the demand of the Ministry of Education, the CPC Beijing Municipal Education Committee and Beijing Municipal Education Commission. In addition, other activities such as singing competition, namely “Follow the Party forever”, “Telling my teaching stories”, “Lighting for teachers” and “Working for people”, will be held so that sound work ethics will be formed on campus and qualified conduct will be practiced to set high moral values and to cultivate talents as excellent teachers.
