Chen Zixuan, Guo Changxin Selected as 2021 “Beijing Youth Model”
On the evening of December 30, the event “Pledging to the Party to Make My Country Strong: An Introduction to the Spirit of the sixth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee and the 2021 Beijing Youth Model Release” was held in Beijing Radio and Television Station. It was co-supported by Beijing Municipal Communist Youth League Committee, Office of Capital Spiritual Civilization Construction Committee, Office of the Beijing Cyberspace Affairs Commission, Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, Beijing Youth Federation, Beijing Students Federation and Beijing Volunteer Service Federation.
Chen Zixuan, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the School of Statistics, and Guo Changxin, an undergraduate of the School of Economics, were both selected as the 2021 “Beijing Youth Models”, and granted the titles of “Volunteer Pioneer” and “Hardworking Youth” respectively. They were the first group of teachers and students awarded this honor in CUEB.
Chen Zixuan is a young lecturer in Fengtai District. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19, he has been engaged in the epidemic prevention in Fengtai District as a volunteer providing language services. Giving full play to his expertise in languages, he did translation or interpreting for foreigners quarantined in the hotel for over 1,500 hours in total. Due to his experience as a university counselor, he prevented the arising of psychological problems of the people in quarantine. In the first half of the year, Chen participated in the preparation for ensuring the success of the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of The Communist Party of China. His hard work in confidentiality, epidemic prevention, comprehensive guarantee was highly praise by the leaders and comrades. In 2021, Chen won the title of “The Most Beautiful Volunteer” in Fengtai District, “The Most Beautiful Volunteer” in taking part in the activity named Capital Lei Feng Volunteer Service with “Five 100” Advanced Models (a hundred cases of carrying forward positive spirits in five different channels), “Advanced Worker” in responding to the activity that youth should provide services for the nation in participating the summer social practice involving students from all high schools, colleges and universities in Beijing.
Guo Changxin, a student from Class 2 of International Economics and Trade, Grade 2019, School of Economics, was diagnosed with severe progressive muscular dystrophy (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) in 2007 when he was only 6 years old. Instead of surrendering himself to the disease, little Guo was determined to take fate by the throat with strong willpower under the encouragement of his family. Since then, Guo has been receiving treatment while never giving up study. Thanks to his hard work, he was admitted to Capital University of Economics and Business in 2019 with a score 160 points higher than the Beijing undergraduate science standard. After being a CUEBer, Guo has been keeping a positive attitude and hardworking spirit and has excellent performance in study. Up to now, in addition to passing CET-6, the average score of all his courses is over 85 points. In May 2020, he became an active member of the Party under the recommendation of the people from Youth League organization to further improve his ideological awareness. He won the title of “Student Excellent in both Character and Learning” in Fengtai District in 2018 and was selected as “Beijing Model” for the week in October, 2019.
“Beijing Youth Model” is selected once a year and has great social influence. By means of organization, social and media recommendation, online voting, and expert evaluation, 100 “Beijing Youth Models” of 2021 were selected for their outstanding performance and moving stories as grassroots. They were awarded the honorary titles of “Hardworking Youth”, “Volunteer Pioneer”, “Science and Technology Innovation Talent”, “Excellent Youth Netizen”, “Culture Star” and “Youth Sports Star” respectively. In the future, “Beijing Youth Models” will go to grassroots to reach young people. Through publicity, seminar, and practice, they will continue to inspire, guide and encourage the youth to live up their vows of “making my country strong”.
