Fighting Epidemic in CUEB: Where There is Counselor, There is Home
Home is a place full of love and warmth. Thinking of these lingering sentiments fills us with great happiness and smiles. During this special period of campus lockdown for pandemic prevention and control, 7 counselors-in-residence have being working hard to create a warm home for students on campus and in this process they forged a deep friendship in love and affection.

Gulzipal, the counselor-in-residence, helps students leaving for their hometowns.
After returning from Zhangjiakou competition zone of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics on April 4th, Gulzipal, counsellor-in-residence, has been working on the front line of CUEB's epidemic prevention and control, fully committing herself to the closed loop management of Beijing 2022 and that of CUEB.
On May 3rd, it was Eid ul-Fitr, the Muslim festival marking the end of the fast of Ramadan. In order to create a festive atmosphere for students of Xinjiang natives, who had been away from home for nearly a year, she carefully bought food and made milk tea for them to enjoy the taste of their hometown. Some students said: "Your self-made milk tea let me feel the warmth of home at school."
Every Tuesday and Friday, Gulzipal would communicate with the Office of Logistics Services and the Property Management Department to regularly distribute fruits, masks and other supplies to students. Now it is time for students to go back home. She carefully reports the information of each student and helps with the transportation arrangement to make sure students return home safe and sound.
Now she is well known to all the students who stay on campus . Being a stranger to the students at the beginning, now she would greet each student warmly every time they meet at school. What’s more, when the students have difficulties, they would turn to her for help at the first time and she always tries the best to help them with patience and enthusiasm. Just as what she remarks, "I think school is a second home for students, and our counselors shall do our uttermost to make students on campus feel the warmth and ease from home."

Yan Li, the counselor-in-residence, has a heart-to-heart talk with students
Yan Li, the counselor-in-residence, is a nice elder sister to all students. Being cautious and serious in her work, nice and kind in her communication with students, she always spares no efforts to solve difficulties for them. For instance, when there was an overlap between students' competition and the nucleic acid test, she contacted the competition organizer immediately to explain the situation and ensured that students could make a balance. When the students encountered difficulties in returning home, she actively worked out plans to help them go back home safely; when the students were down in spirits, she talked with them patiently and tried to cheer them up with confidence and hope.
In lockdown, the biggest difficulty for students is that all kinds of documents on eligibility and qualifications are not available offline in school. In order to meet the demand of students, each college provided online one-stop service. Therefore, for all the required documents, such as necessary personal belongings, the tripartite agreement, school report printing, as well as all kinds of certificates, Yan Li would communicat with the students one by one, double checked the delivery to make sure every student can enjoy the care and concern from our school, dramatically minimizing the negative impact of the pandemic.
One student sincerely acknowledged her help in the thesis, "I would like to thank my counselor Yan Li, who, during my four years of college life, would always try her best to support me whenever I asked her for help. She is not only my teacher and friend, but also my family member."

Li Kexin, the counselor-in-residence, makes person-to-person connections with students.
Li gets acquainted with students and wins their trust as a friend and family member, rather than as only a teacher to the students.
Li was a little worried when she began her one-to-one telephone interview with a list of strange names, most of whom are master and doctoral students staying at school for research or job-hunting. She was haunted by many concerns like “Would my phone call interrupt them?” or “Could I truly understand their psychological needs and provide effective suggestions for them?”. Finally she made her first call and asked about the student’s daily life and concerns with patience, and she received unexpected gratitude from students: “I had a great time in school and after my successful completion of thesis defense, I’m ready to begin the internship.” “I really want to express my thanks to CUEB and all the teachers in that we never feel lonely with your company.” or Our canteens always prepare delicious food and I would like to recommend the pancake rolled with crisp fritter to you…”. Li is sincerely happy for their good news and sends her bests wishes to them.
Li collected needs from students through phone calls, online meetings and Wechat , then gives a timely feedback on daily consultation and judgement meeting. She tried her best to provide a favorable environment for students to study and live, such as extending the service time of the self-study room, increasing the service frequencies of the library, etc. She said she was greatly touched by students’ optimistic attitude towards life and their fighting for a better future. Day by day, she gets familiar with each student and knows better about their stories.
Counselors always see it as their duty to keep our campus safe and stable, and protect students from any dangers. They and the students now have become attached to one other like family members in the process of mutual help and support.
