Moreover, Sun also actively cooperated with the leaders to conduct emergency response for epidemic prevention and control and manage the health monitoring zones in CUEB. While holding a meticulous working attitude and professional dedication, Sun Xueyuan also boasts a strong sense of responsibility and devotes himself to his daily work. He has been on duty for 24 consecutive hours in the school for more than 20 days since the outbreak of the epidemic. He was also engaged in helping several units of CUEB organize meetings, gathering epidemic information, screening the epidemic related personnel, as well as regulating the normalized epidemic prevention and control measures. Sun always brings best performance during his daily work while working to ensure that all tasks are free from errors, omissions or delays. Meanwhile, Sun is also enthusiastic for introducing various regulations, policies or measures of anti-epidemic to teachers and students. Faced with different consultation of anti-epidemic policies and complaints, Sun always keeps patient. That is why the measures of epidemic prevention and control can receive extensive understanding from teachers and students. Gulzipal: Warm-hearted Counselor

Gulzipal, counselor of the Office of Student Affairs, is a volunteer for Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and a counselor-in-residence for epidemic prevention as well. Since April 4, the day she returned to CUEB from the closed loop in Zhangjiakou, she has been engaged in the epidemic prevention and control on campus. To set up a strong defense of epidemic control, she, along with six other counselors, assisted the Duty Chief in securing the management for students on campus as well as the pandemic response.

Putting heart and soul into work, Gulzipal offered warm-hearted services. Under the guidance of the Duty Chief, she established systems to standardize the management, such as the “Daily Consultation System” and the “Guidelines for Epidemic Prevention of Counselor-in-residence”. Daily consultation was rolled out with other counselors and staff from the Office of Logistics Services to understand students’ needs, supervise them to take nucleic acid tests on time, update their information, and organize the activity named “Young Party Members in Action to Fight Against the Pandemic”. Several symposiums for Party members or students on campus have been held to address students’ various demands. Security supplies were handed out to ensure their basic life, including fruit packages for nine times and N95 masks for four. Caring about the students on campus, Gulzipal contacted 25 students in her group one to one on the phone. Besides, during this period, she did a series of work such as information reporting, vehicle coordinating, timely emergency handling for students who would like to return home, and paid close attention to what was happening to them until they all arrived safely. Being inspired, more student Party members have joined in. Every time when distributing materials, Gulzipal feels happy because members who stay on campus always sign up actively to help, and she often receives messages from them to ask if she needs help. Gurizpal said, “They are not only bringing warmth to us, but playing an exemplary vanguard role as Party members”. She is meticulous and responsible. In CUEB’s response to the pandemic, she assisted the Office of the CUEB Epidemic Prevention and Control Leading Group in recording and sorting out all kinds of epidemiological investigation data as well as a telephone survey, and reporting relevant statistical data in time with no error. She often says, “I strive to be a considerate counselor, set an example, and influence more students around me with my words and deeds.” Being dedicated to her duties, she talked with every ethnic minority student from Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on a one-to-one basis, cared about their lives, and distributed care packages to students during festivals. She also held online meetings for sharing, resume making, and communication as well as symposiums for ethnic minority students in CUEB, so that students can improve their capacities in all aspects.

Zhou Jin: Safeguard Campus in This Way

It is the 15th year that Zhou Jin has worked as a security cadre of Fire Control in CUEB Security Department. He never complains, despite a longer distance from home to school after transferring from the nearby Huaxiang campus to the General Office of Security in Hongmiao campus. In the face of arduous work, he diligently performs his duties, and never cares about individual gains and losses, fully demonstrating his loyalty and responsibility as a Party member.

On campus, there is such a team in charge of disinfection and sterilization, express, information, transportation, patrol, and fire prevention etc., with each of them being dedicated to their jobs and guarding the safety of CUEB as well as teachers and students on campus. They are the staff of the CUEB Security Department. When CUEB started the lockdown after the latest outbreak, Zhou Jin volunteered to stay on duty, and firmly committed to the campus pandemic prevention and control. During this period, his mother fell ill in hospital and needed his care and companionship. While considering that there were few members in Hongmiao Campus and it was difficult to work in and out of the campus at this special time, he finally chose to stay and work on the campus despite his concern for his mother, and his family also understood and supported his choice. He still meticulously organized security staff to complete the daily security inspection of the campus. Meanwhile, materials and express in and out, totaling over 400, were disinfected and registered to ensure a well-conducted work in campus epidemic containment and fire safety. As some wonder why he made such a decision, he said that the pandemic is like a “war without smoke”, and the Party members are the brave soldiers. After all, there has to be someone on the front line. What he expects is the victory of the “war”, so that he can spend more time taking care of his parents and make up for the regret of not being with them.” Thanks to the efforts of Zhou Jin and other members of the Department, the work of two campuses of CUEB has been carried out in a smoothly and orderly manner. All staff in the Department have devoted themselves to their posts and made their own contributions, showing their high sense of responsibility.

Wang Chun: Stay Fast at His Post in CUEB

Wang Chun, the teacher from the Equipment Office of the Property Management Department, actively sticked to his post at the beginning of the lockdown. At the same time, his wife had already rushed to the Laoshan Subdistrict to carry out the pandemic control, his parents needed to look after his 90-year-old grandma, and his two sons had to take care of themselves. Despite those challenges, Wang Chun still resolutely took part in the fight against the pandemic.

Wang Chun is responsible for managing warehouses of anti-pandemic supplies in CUEB. He has improved layouts of warehouses, checked safety risks, installed fire security facilities as well as strictly implemented the acceptance checks, counting, disinfection, removal, and distribution of supplies as well as the dynamic stock-taking of warehouses. To ensure supplies, he actively contacted teachers responsible for the off-campus procurement, supplementing the supplies timely. During the lockdown in the CUEB, he coordinated all on-duty sections on two campuses to collect supply demands; promptly contacted staff on campus to distribute anti-pandemic supplies, lunch boxes, etc.; kept the communication among all sections smooth through phones, Wechat groups and other channels, ensuring the 24-hour supply of anti-pandemic and basic living materials. With the prolonged lockdown, the burden on him increased, but he never complained but said: “We should seriously treat the pandemic prevention. Only when every detail is perfect, can we prevent the pandemic from the campus.” At critical moments of fighting the pandemic, Wang Chun, as an ordinary person at the primary level, implemented the prevention work well with his responsibilities and obligation. As a veteran, he had no fear of risks and stayed at the front line, fighting against the pandemic with determination to win.

Chen Yunbo: Work at the Front Line to Ensure Logistics Services

Chen Yunbo, Director of Catering Center in Office of Logistics Services, Secretary of Party Branch of Catering Center, is in charge of catering services. As an old hand with over 30-year experience, Chen Yunbo has worked in several departments such as energy saving, engineering, property and office. After the resurgence of local outbreaks, he immediately responded to the call of the Party Committee and joined a task force for pandemic prevention on campus. Being familiar with logistics and good at handling complex affairs, he worked in CUEB for over 40 consecutive days and completed the tasks of pandemic prevention during the lockdown.

As a member of the Party Committee of the Office of Logistics Services, he took active steps to make partial decisions on pandemic prevention and allocated work according to the Party Committee. As the director of the Catering Center, he led staff to make new plans by requirements, such as the plans for emergency response, for the catering security services and for food material procurement and processing, in a bid to standardize the whole process of catering services. He proposed rotation mechanism (Responsible A and Responsible B) to eliminate risks in catering security. To answer the call for pandemic prevention, many staff stay on campus and live in different apartments. Chen cares them a lot by helping to solve problems and manage their mood swings caused by the lockdown. Besides, he tries to provide a variety of dishes to ensure better service for teachers and students on campus. He also integrated the catering services security into the construction of the “Three Whole Education” (All educational workers strive to foster students in all processes and in all respects). The Party Branch of Catering Center cooperated with the Second Party Branch of Undergraduate Students from the School of Finance to organize an online activity themed “Staying True to Our Original Aspiration and Founding Mission, Improving Ourselves through Co-learning”. From May to June, the Catering Service Center, together with the Youth League Committee and the Students’ Union of CUEB, held the sixth CUEB Online Cooking Competition and engaged many students in the activity. The competition was a great success, getting over 1,000 hits. To win the fight against the pandemic, Chen Yunbo and all staff in the Office of Logistics braved the challenge in a noble spirit of sacrifice to protect the safety and health of teachers and students.

Li Jiansheng: Ensure Campus Functioning

Li Jiansheng, Director of Property Security Center in the Office of Logistics Services, is in charge of campus’s daily functioning, such as the management of health monitoring areas, disinfection on campus, as well as the supply of water, electricity, gas, and heat. During the lockdown, he led other staff to implement the requirements of pandemic prevention on campus, laying a solid foundation for further steps.

Since the health monitoring area is to accommodate febrile teachers, staff and students, it runs a higher risk of spreading the pandemic. To avoid the spreading, Li Jiansheng made and refined pandemic prevention plans. By June 20th, a total of 303 people completed the health monitoring, preventing the spreading of the pandemic during the lockdown. In terms of the campus’s functioning, he always worked together with other staff and juggled the work of carrying supplies as well as ensuring the hygiene and safety of the campus. Around 19:00 on June 13th, there was a sudden breakdown in the campus water pipe network. Li immediately reported to relevant departments while rushing to the scene to make an emergency repair plan. At the same time, he quickly contacted construction vehicles to carry out demolition operations and provided emergency plans, restoring the normal supply of water with mere 7 hours. Even if his home is near the campus and he needs to take care of his old parents and tutored two kids, he still stayed on campus for the public good, setting a good example for other staff. Furthermore, he would keep in touch with staff in controlled areas to care about their situation and encourage them to keep fighting against the pandemic. He took active and sincere actions to contribute to the pandemic prevention, winning the understanding and trust of others. All his efforts ensured the orderly functioning of the property security group on campus and made all staff, even those who had to stay at home, united as one, building a strong defense against the pandemic on campus.

In the fight against the pandemic, these respectable persons worked together with responsibility and dedication to protect the safety and peace on campus and the health of teachers and students, successfully fulfilling their original aspiration and founding mission.
