To integrate classroom teaching and social practice, Associate Professor Bi Yanjing from the School of Foreign Studies led students from the Advanced French course to the 28th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo on May 8. The team took part in the 2026 Conference De Promotion Du Burkina Faso, providing bilingual English-French interpretation services for exhibitors and helping build a communication bridge between Chinese companies and overseas business visitors.

The students actively engaged with visiting African business representatives, explaining the parameters, advantages, and application scenarios of mechanical equipment in professional terms and helping remove communication barriers in international business exchanges. Faced with complex technical terminology in the machinery sector and the needs of companies expanding overseas, the students applied what they had learned in class, including diplomatic etiquette, terminology identification, and bilingual interpretation, to complete on-site interpretation tasks with confidence. Their professionalism and capabilities won highly praise from exhibitors and overseas visitors.

Based on real scenarios and tasks, the activity enabled students to refine their professional skills and gain hands-on experience through immersive training. After the event, students gained a deeper understanding that the core of interpreting lies in accurate communication. They also recognized that interpreters’ competence to adapt to context, respond on the spot, and connect emotionally with speakers represents a key advantage that artificial intelligence cannot easily replace.

Going forward, the School of Foreign Studies will continue to deepen its “major + practice” development model. Closely aligned with China’s opening-up needs and companies’ overseas development, the school will build more high-quality practice platforms, use the strengths of language education to serve international exchange, and help young students sharpen their skills and grow through real-world practice.
