On October 1st, a flag raising ceremony was held at Tiananmen Square to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).

194 CUEBers gathered to greet the first light of dawn. As the majestic national anthem played, they expressed sincere blessings to our great motherland, wishing her prosperity and success. With the music of  Ode to the Motherland echoing, peace doves soared while colorful balloons ascended, painting the heavens with vibrant hues. The participants with hands raised high and flags waving vigorously, expressing their determination to contribute to the country’s future.

Students’ sayings

Liu Shiran, a 2021 undergraduate student from the School of Economics noted, “It’s an honor to witness this flag-raising ceremony on such an important occasion. As the national flag rises, my heart swells with emotion. Words cannot fully express the profound surge of feelings within me. The echoes of history resonate deeply, and the pulse of the times stirs within my heart. As a young student in this new era, I will stay true to the school motto of ‘Advocating Morality, Valuing Competence, Strategizing National Development, and Serving the People’ to carry forward our mission”.

Wang Jiachen, a 2021 undergraduate student from the School of Labor Economics said, “This is my third time watching the flag-raising ceremony at Tiananmen Square. From the awe I felt during my first visit as a middle school student, to the excitement of witnessing the flag rise at a front-row spot, today I feel an even deeper sense of pride. In each moment, like the horn sounds for the flag to appear on Tiananmen Tower, the Flag Guard marching out in perfect unison, the flag ascending to the top of the pole, and visitors from all corners sing together, a spontaneous sense of pride arises. I am fortunate to have been born in China and to grow up in a rapidly developing, prosperous, and powerful era. Of course, we must not forget the great responsibilities our motherland entrusts upon the youth. As young people of the new era, we must work hard with determination for China’s modernization”.

Kang Haochen, a 2022 undergraduate student from the School of Management and Engineering shared, “In the early morning, Tiananmen Square is bathed in the faint glow of dawn. The Five-Starred Red Flag symbolizes the effort and sacrifices of our forerunners, as well as the great achievements of our nation has made on the path to realizing Chinese modernization. Science and technology are the foundation of a strong country, and innovation is the soul of national progress. As CUEBers, we must keep up with the times, embrace innovation, and explore to fulfill our personal dreams and contribute to national development.”

Bi Yufan, a 2024 postgraduate student from the School of Finance remarked, “How fortunate we were born in China! Today, we celebrate our motherland’s 75th birthday. I’m honored to be here to witness the solemn and sacred flag-raising ceremony, a source of pride and glory unique to the Chinese nation. Over the past 75 years, our motherland has gone through numerous trials and tribulations, and with her unique resilience and wisdom, she has made numerous achievements. As young people, we are committed to turning our patriotism into action, contributing our youth to the country.”

On this National Day,

The resounding National Anthem echoes like a trumpet,

Under the Five-Starred Red Flag, our hearts and hands are united.

Born in a prosperous era, we youth must strive and make a difference.

On this vibrant campus,

We hail from diverse regions,

Yet we belong to one nation.

We feel the warmth and kinship of the shared roots,

Advancing hand in hand,

Braving forward on the path of youth,

Jointly crafting our own splendid story.

The national flag waves proudly,

Witnessing to the nation’s prosperity,

Accompanying our growth and dreams,

Deeply ingrained in the hearts of every CUEBer.

We strive to be the new generation of our times,

Undaunted, demonstrating the courage of youth,

Unyielding, embracing our responsibilities,

Together, we write a new chapter,

With our vigor, we safeguard a prosperous China of our era.
