On September 27, CUEB held the grand opening ceremony for the new CUEBers of Grade 2024. Attendees included Wang Wenju, CUEB Party Secretary; Wu Weixing, Deputy Party Secretary and President of CUEB; Xu Fang, Deputy Party Secretary of CUEB; Mao Baizhan, Standing Committee of CUEB Party Committee and Secretary of Discipline Inspection Commission; Fu Lin, Standing Committee of CUEB Party Committee and Director of the Publicity Department; and President Assistant Guo Hai. CUEB Vice President Li Kunpeng, the Standing Committee of CUEB Party Committee presided over the ceremony.

Representing the university, President Wu Weixing greeted new CUEBers with great enthusiasm. He mentioned that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and he encouraged all CUEBer to keep this significant year in mind and make great contributions to the country’s development. Wu put forward three expectations: Firstly, uphold the virtue of “advocating morality” and keep up with the country’s improvement, shoulder the responsibility to realize the great rejuvenation. Secondly, uphold the spirit of “valuing competence” and be committed to authenticity. In pursuing education, CUEBers should acquire knowledge and refine character through persistent study. Thirdly, implement the philosophy of “strategizing national development and serving the people” and apply what has been learned into practice to address the challenges of social and economic development with expertise, better serving the national strategies and the development of the capital in the new era.

Wu Weixing wrapped up his speech by emphasizing the importance of cherishing this prosperous era, seizing the day, living it to the full, and striving for the best outcomes.

Professor Zhou Kaiguo, Dean of the School of Finance, addressed the students as a faculty representative. He used the metaphor of a “camel” to explain four key qualities: firmness, creativity, diligence, and pragmatism. He expected the students to be guided by the Camel Spirit to craft a bright future.\

Li Zi’ang, a 2023 graduate student of the School of Labor Economics, addressed on behalf of all students. Accompanied by a soft acapella rendition of “A Letter to the Little Camel,” he shared his experience in professional studies, social practice, student work, and culture-sports competitions, encouraging all freshmen to forge ahead and hone skills.

Yan Tongyu, a 2024 freshman from the School of Culture and Communication, spoke on behalf of all freshmen. She shared her story of buying “CUEB-made mooncakes” and expressed her excitement as a new student eager for “in-person interactions”. When asked how to fulfill her dreams, she set her mind on upholding her love for the country and ideals, deepening her professional knowledge, and shouldering the responsibilities of a CUEBer through actions.

School leaders put the CUEB university badges on the representatives of the new CUEBers. These badges serve as identification for “CUEBers” and carry the history and culture of CUEB, embodying the affection of all faculty and students. The new CUEBers are encouraged to inherit the university’s motto of “advocating morality, valuing competence, strategizing national development, and serving the people” and the “Camel Spirit”, and make their efforts on the Chinese path to modernization.

Xiao Yao, a freshman from the School of Data Science, made a solemn oath with student representatives from all schools, and Bi Yufan, a new postgraduate from the School of Finance, delivered the long banner with signatures to Wang Wenju and made a solemn oath.

To encourage newcomers to develop into qualified youths with sound moral grounding, intellectual ability, physical vigor, aesthetic sensibility, and work skills, school leaders gave best wishes to them with seven kinds of gifts, including “Wish List of Books,” “Super Internet Card,” “Seasonal Clothing,” “Knowledge and Action Express,” “Internship VIP,” and “Life Mentor Program,” and the “Lucky Gift” to the lucky students.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The CUEB Chorus sang the “Ode to the Motherland” with all new CUEBers, wishing China continued prosperity and success. The ceremony drew to a successful end with a chorus involving all faculty and students.

Present at the ceremony were directors of functional departments, secretaries, deans, and vice secretaries of all schools, all counselors, class advisers of freshmen, representatives of all faculty and students, and all 2024 freshmen. The ceremony was also broadcast live on CUEB’s official WeChat video account, garnering over 13,000 views, including some parents of new students.
