On December 6, CUEB held the Second Session of the 5th Staff Congress and Labor Union Congress (hereafter Two Congresses). Attendees included Wang Wenju, Secretary of CUEB Party Committee; President Wu Weixing, Deputy Secretary of CUEB Party Committee; Xu Fang, Deputy Secretary of CUEB Party Committee and Chairperson of CUEB Labor Union; Meng Bo, Deputy Party Secretary; Li Xiaomu, Vice President; Mao Baizhan, member of the CUEB Party Standing Committee and Secretary of Discipline Inspection Commission (DIC); Yao Linxiu and Chen Yanbin, members of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice Presidents; Zhao Guang, members of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee; Director of the Organization Department and United Front Work Division of the Party Committee; Li Kunpeng, members of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee; Director of Office of Development and Planning, and Director of the Office of Discipline Construction; and deputy to the 5th Staff Congress, Labor Union , middle-level heads, People’s Congress and Political Consultative Conference, democratic parties at all levels, and retirees. Xu Fang presided over the meeting.

On behalf of CUEB, Wu Weixing made a report titled “Striving in Unity to Establish Domestic First-class and Worldly-renowned University of Economics and Business”. Wu reviewed the achievements of CUEB from 9 aspects:

• First, the 14th Five-Year Plan has been implemented.

• Second, discipline construction has been advanced.

• Third, the quality of personnel cultivation has been improved.

• Fourth, the mechanism of the “Three-Wide Education” system (which means all educational workers strive to foster students in all processes and all respects) has been upgraded.

• Fifth, organized research has been strengthened.

• Sixth, the capacity to better serve the capital as the “Four Centers” (namely, the national political center, cultural center, center for international exchanges, and center for scientific discovery and technological innovation) and the “Two Zones” (the Integrated National Demonstration Zone for Opening up the Services Sector and the China (Beijing) Pilot Free Trade Zone has been strengthened.

• Seventh, foreign exchange and globally oriented education have been improved.

• Eighth, a high-quality professional personnel team has been built.

• Ninth, campus security has been ensured.

Wu Weixing analyzed the new situation and challenges facing CUEB and charted future work from 6 aspects:

• First, to advance discipline construction;

• Second, to improve the quality of personnel cultivation;

• Third, to continuously improve the ability of research, innovation, and social service;

• Fourth, to build a high-quality professional personnel team;

• Fifth, to engage in domestic and international cooperation and exchanges;

• Sixth, to enhance management competence.

Wu emphasized that CUEBers must effectively unify thoughts and actions in line with the spirit of the 5th Party Congress of CUEB, keep in mind the mission of cultivating talents for the Party and the country, and implement the tasks, thus writing a new chapter for CUEB high-quality development.

Wang Xiaoting, Director of Division of Financial Administration, made a report on CUEB 2022 budget execution and 2023 budget planning.

Jiang Wei, Executive Vice Chairman of CUEB Labor Union and Deputy Director of Staff Congress Executive Committee, delivered a work report titled “Moving Forward with Ambition to Build a Domestic First-class Internationally Renowned High-level Research-oriented University of Economics and Business”. She focused on the achievements by strengthening the “Six Forces” and the key tasks for the next step. In the past year, taking the election of the Two Congresses as an opportunity, the organizational force has been greatly enhanced. By celebrating the 20th CPC National Congress, faculty’s ideological and political work has been strengthened. With the YTTSC and Young Officials Management Skills Competition as the carrier, the career development of young faculty has become clearer. Staffs have become happier with more targeted services; the campus has become more harmonious and work efficiency has been improved through continuous self-development of the Labor Union. She said that the Two Congresses would work to build a domestic first-class and world-renowned high-level university in economics and business.

The Two Congresses reviewed the Report on the Work of Proposals of the First Session of the 5th Staff Congress” and the Report on the Work of the 5th Labor Union Funds Review Committee for 2022.

Wang Wenju made a concluding speech titled “Focusing on New Tasks and Showing New Actions to Promote the Work of Staff Congress and Labor Union Congress to a New Level”. He said that the Two Congresses have contributed to the school’s high-quality development by closely focusing on the school’s central tasks, performing their duties conscientiously with innovative methods. To make CUEB a home for teachers and students, the Two Congresses have done a lot. He emphasized that the next five years will be crucial to deepen reform and improve quality and efficiency. Facing new situations, tasks, and challenges, we need to seize the opportunity and work together to promote high-quality development. He put forward three expectations for the work of the Two Congresses:

Firstly, we should implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era (the Thought), guiding faculty to unswervingly follow the Party. The Two Congresses should comprehensively and effectively implement the Party’s leadership into their work. We should establish Comrade Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole and establish the guiding role of the Thought. We should become more conscious of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment with the central Party leadership. We should stay confident in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics. We should uphold Comrade Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole and uphold the Central Committee’s authority and its centralized, unified leadership.

Secondly, we should comprehensively implement the spirit of the 5th Party Congress of CUEB, and fully stimulate the initiative and creativity of faculty to promote high-quality development to realize the goals set by the Party Congress, thus building a bright future with a united faculty.

Thirdly, we should effectively strengthen the self-construction of the Two Congresses, deepening the reform and innovation to promote constructing CUEB as a home.

In the new era, CUEB has its new mission, which calls for new actions of the faculty. Xu Fang stressed that the Two Congresses should always adhere to the overall leadership of the Party, gather all faculty with the Thought, focus on high-quality development, better protect the rights, and deepen the reform. By providing more qualified services, we are going to do a better job in leadership, organization, and service. We will take the Party as a bridge to unite and lead the faculty to thoroughly implement the spirits of the 20th CPC National Congress, the 18th National Congress of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), the 13th Beijing Municipal Congress of the CPC and the 5th Party Congress of CUEB. We should gather the wisdom of all to promote our development under the strong leadership of the Party Committee of CUEB in the new era.
