Vice President Yao Linxiu Meets with Delegation from Oromia State University and Beijing Municipal Party Committee
On the morning of March 28 in the Boyuan Building, Yao Linxiu, a member of CUEB Party Committee and Vice President, met with a delegation, including vice presidents Riyad Dawud Adem and Delessa Bulcha Neger from Oromia State University, as well as Chen Cong, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of Beijing Municipal Party Committee. The two parties engaged in in-depth discussions on advancing cooperation and exchanges in student exchanges, teacher visits, and research collaboration.
Yao extended a warm welcome to the two guests and briefly introduced the basic situation at CUEB, including discipline construction, school rankings, student enrollment, and international cooperation and exchange. Yao noted that Oromia State University and CUEB shared many common research areas and expressed a desire to continue exploring cooperation opportunities in domains such as finance, technology, law, leadership, and public management.
Riyad Adem expressed sincere gratitude for CUEB’s warm reception. He mentioned the longstanding and close relationship between China and Ethiopia, emphasizing regular interactions and extensive cooperation in economics, technology, and engineering construction. He expressed enthusiasm for further cooperation and exchanges with Chinese universities in education and research, aiming to deepen bilateral cooperation in education and humanities.
Delessa Neger also expressed appreciation for CUEB’s warm reception and efforts to strengthen exchanges. He introduced the basic situation of Oromia State University, including its history, geographical location, key areas, faculty and students, professional construction, and international cooperation and exchanges. He also expressed hope for further cooperation in teacher training, academic and scientific research, and other areas.
The heads of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, International College, and other relevant departments and colleges also had in-depth discussions.
After the meeting, the delegation, accompanied by Yao Linxiu, visited the School History Museum and smart classrooms, and watched improvisational dance performances by the Student Street Dance Club, learning about teaching conditions, campus culture, history, and achievements of CUEB. Following this meeting, both sides reached a preliminary intention for cooperation. The details of international student enrollment, faculty visits, joint international conferences, and the signing of a memorandum of cooperation will be further discussed.
Zhao Lingfei, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office and Deputy Dean of the School of International Education, Wei Huaying, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, and Yu Jia, Deputy Dean of the School of International Education, all participated in the meeting.
Oromia State University, located in Oromia, Ethiopia’s largest state, is the only state university in Ethiopia. It was founded in 1988 as a modest training center to provide short-term training for local political students and newly recruited civil servants. In 1992, the Oromia Management Institute was established to improve the efficiency and leadership effectiveness of civil servants through comprehensive training, consulting, and research. Subsequently, the Wolisho Training Center was established in 1996, and renamed the Oromia Public Service College in 1997. The university currently has 184 teachers and 479 administrative staff. It offers 12 undergraduate majors, 7 master’s programs, and 2 doctoral programs in disciplines such as finance, technology, law, leadership, and public management.
