Xu Fang and Her Delegation Visit UK and Ireland

From November 26 to December 2, Xu Fang, Deputy Secretary of CUEB Party Committee, led a delegation to visit the UK and Ireland. During this visit, several positive outcomes were observed, such as encouraging university collaboration, hiring foreign staff, and visiting overseas alumni.


At Queen Mary University of London, Xu Fang and her delegation held talks with Associate Vice President Daniel Todman, representatives from the School of Economics and Finance, and the Office of Global Partnerships. The two sides introduced their respective disciplinary advantages, personnel cultivation, and highly admired each other’s achievements and advantages. They reached a consensus on many parts, including student exchange programs of Finance and Economics majors, especially on master’s degree cooperation projects, faculty visits, collaborative research, and attracting outstanding overseas personnel. They also expressed their willingness to further cooperation and sign the school-level cooperation agreements.

The delegation visits Queen Mary University of London


At Lincoln College University of Oxford, Xu Fang and her delegation visited the campus and held talks with Vice President Alex Spain, Director of Summer Programs Linda Man, and others. The two sides discussed summer camp programs in Finance, Human Resources Management, as well as other majors in terms of selection criteria, curricula design, and credit accumulation. The two sides stated that they would sign the Memorandum of Cooperation to deepen collaboration in projects like long- and short-term student exchanges, sending visiting scholars, co-research, and attracting outstanding overseas personnel, etc.

The delegation visits Lincoln College University of Oxford


At Lancaster University, Xu Fang and her delegation discussed with representatives from the Management School, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and the Office of Global Partners. Reviewing successful cooperation, the two sides focused on programs of student exchanges and double-degree programs for graduates in Finance, Human Resources Management, Marketing, Culture and Communication, among others, as well as research collaboration in business management, digital economy, finance, and employment of more excellent graduates. They also explored the potential of Sino-foreign cooperative education. Then, Xu Fang and Claire Leitch, member of the Council and Dean of the Management School, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on behalf of the two universities.

During the visit, Xu Fang and her delegation also visited the Education Office of the Embassy of PRC in UK, and communicated with the educational counselor Kuang Jianjiang, and the first secretary Gao Shang. Then they visited British alumni and Chinese students and scholars at Oxford University.


At Technological University of the Shannon, President Vincent Cunnane, Vice President Donnacha McNamara, and Vice President of Research Liam Brown extended a warm welcome to the delegation. The two sides reviewed the great multi-level cooperation achievements since 2006, and had an in-depth discussion on expanding student exchanges and summer camps, exploring degree programs for undergraduates and graduates in Finance, Culture and Communication, Human Resources Management, and other majors, and jointly hosting academic conferences, research cooperation, faulty exchanges and cooperation. They reached a consensus on cooperation. After the meeting, the delegation also visited the sports hall, newly built engineering building, library, and other facilities at Athlone Campus.

The delegation visits Technological University of the Shannon


At Dublin City University, Xu Fang and the delegation held talks with Vice President Laura Mahoney and directors from Business School, School of Communications, and the International Exchange Office. As one of the earliest universities in Ireland to cooperate with CUEB, Dublin City University signed a cooperation agreement in 2007. The two sides reviewed the great achievements since 2007 in student exchanges and bachelor- and master-degree programs, successive undergraduate and graduate programs. They discussed future cooperation, student exchanges, faculty visits, and strengthening research cooperation. In addition, they reached a preliminary consensus on promoting degree programs for undergraduates and graduates in Finance, Culture and Communication, and other majors, and then explored the feasibility of programs of student exchanges in Computer Science and Technology, Information Management and Information System, and Safety Engineering. During the meeting, Xu Fang, on behalf of the University signed a Memorandum of Cooperation framework and student exchange programs agreement with Dublin City University. After the meeting, the delegation visited the Business Crossover Discipline Lab, the Digital Media Lab, the library, and the teacher’s studio at Dublin City University.

In Ireland, the delegation also visited Chinese students and scholars at Technological University of the Shannon and Dublin City University.


During this visit, the delegation signed three cooperation agreements and reached cooperation intentions with two world-renowned universities, which deepened the communication with first-class universities in the UK and Ireland, opening a new chapter in comprehensive cooperation between CUEB and first-class universities in Europe. It is of great significance for implementing the spirit of the 5th Party Congress of CUEB, encouraging international cooperation and exchanges, and developing the Belt and Road Initiative.

Participants in this visit included Shang Xiaohui, Director of Teachers Affairs Department of the Party Committee and Director of the Personnel Office, Liu Wenchuan, Secretary of the Party Committee of School of Finance, Shi Gang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Culture and Communication, and Sha Yezhou, Assistant Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges.
