From August 10 to 22, the 2026 Beijing-Hong Kong University Alliance (BHUA) SummerCamp themed “Cross Distant Arms, Discover Beijing’s Charm” was held in Beijing. Guided by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission and hosted by CUEB, the event brought 25 Chinese and foreign students together, including six international students, from the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University and Lingnan University. Centered on an in-depth study tour of the Palace Museum, the students explored ten cultural landmarks across Beijing. 

On their first day in Beijing, the students visited Tiananmen Square to watch the nation-flag-raising ceremony. With the solemn national anthem, the cultural study tour officially kicked off.

The opening ceremony took place at the Palace Museum on August 12. Vice-President Li kunpeng, Member of the Standing Committee of CUEB Party Committee, attended and delivered an address. He encouraged students to cherish this opportunity to act as bridges for friendship. Representatives from the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Beijing Normal University (Secretariat of the Beijing-Hong Kong University Alliance) and CUEB were also present at the ceremony.

The most distinctive feature of the summer camp was moving the teaching position from classrooms to the museums with historical sites and culture relics. In the first phase, 12 experts from the Palace Museum gave lectures in turn. They guided students through core exhibition zones including the Central Axis, the Hall of Mental Cultivation and the Treasure Gallery. Students also experienced traditional crafts such as mortise-and-tenon assembly, ceramic fragment restoration and guqinperformance. During the second phase, the urban exploration phase, students toured the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, the Old Summer Palace, the China Science and Technology Museum, Shichahai and Nanluoguxiang. From historical imperial sites to hutong lanes, from historical relics to science venues, they experienced the integration of Beijing’s ancient heritage and modern technology. 

The closing ceremony was held at CUEB’s Hongmiao Campus on August 22. Divided into five groups, the 25 students presented what they had learned via Vlog documentaries, interdisciplinary interpretations and comparative analyses of urban cultures. At the end of the ceremony, the teacher in charge of this activity awarded completion certification to all students and took a commemorative photo.

The Summer Camp puts into practice General Secretary Xi Jinping’s message to Hong Kong youth: “Read thousands of books and travel thousands of miles; learn more about history, gain a better understanding of national conditions, broaden your horizons, enrich your knowledge, build capabilities, strive for early success. We do all of these for serving Hong Kong and contributing to the motherland with concrete actions.” As the key Beijing-Hong Kong exchange project entrusted to CUEB by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, the 2026 Summer Camp aligns high-quality capital’s cultural resources with research-study demands of Hong Kong youth. It has fostered an interaction model of joint study and research for mutual progress, providing a CUEB-style model for building a long-term exchange platform for young people from Beijing and Hong Kong. As one of the founding members of the BHKU, CUEB will continue to support the alliance platform, deepen educational cooperation between Beijing and Hong Kong, and contribute to the integrated development of the two regions.
