On the morning of December 6, CUEB held a conference on discipline construction and scientific research in the Zhuoyu Auditorium, Boyuan Building, focusing on “Seizing Opportunities with Greater Efforts for More Breakthroughs.” The attendees included leaders of CUEB: Wang Wenju, Party Secretary; Wu Weixing, Deputy Party Secretary and President; Xu Fang and Ouyang Qin, Deputy Party Secretary; Li Xiaomu, Vice President of CUEB; Mao Baizhan, member of Standing Committee and Secretary of Discipline Inspection Commission; Yin Zhichao, Yao Linxiu and Li Kunpeng, members of Standing Committee and Vice Presidents. Zhao Guang, member of Standing Committee and Director of Organization Development and United Front Work Division of the Party Committee; Fu Lin, Standing Committee and Director of the Publicity Department; Guo Hai, President Assistant; Directors of all departments; members of the University Academic Committee; first- and second-class discipline leaders; teacher representatives, students, as well as media, totaling more than 300 participants. The conference was chaired by Chen Yanbin, member of Standing Committee and Vice President.

The conference officially kicked off with the video titled “Jing Cai” (playing on the homophonic Chinese character of “Jing” as both “economics ()” and “excellence ()”).

Wang Wenju delivered a keynote speech, in which he first expressed gratitude to all faculty and students for their diligent efforts in contributing to the development of the university. He highlighted the importance of implementing the “Breakthrough Project” to enhance the quality of discipline construction, as proposed at the CUEB’s Fifth Party Congress, during this crucial period of CUEB’s high-quality development. He urged CUEBers to seize opportunities, gather consensus, and strive for breakthroughs in discipline construction.

Wang stressed that the “Five Measures” and “Nine Tasks” proposed at this conference were strategic drivers for the university’s overall discipline construction. All functional departments should further refine their tasks, shoulder responsibilities, and ensure the implementation of the measures. He also outlined three requirements for the next steps: First, strengthen leadership and overall coordination, prioritizing high-quality Party building to ensure high-quality development. Second, develop an effective information-sharing platform and discipline management mechanism to enable high-quality development. Third, provide robust resource support and incentive mechanisms to foster faculty’s enthusiasm and academic potential. He called for collective efforts and targeted strategies to enhance discipline construction and scientific research.

Wu Weixing delivered a speech titled “Seize Opportunities and Strive for First-Class Disciplines.” He outlined CUEB’s accomplishments in research and discipline construction since 2021 in five aspects and noted that the university was facing a historic opportunity for high-speed development and must strive for breakthroughs in discipline construction. He emphasized the need for key disciplines to achieve national first-class status and for priority disciplines to be developed to meet these standards, with efforts to secure doctoral program approvals. To implement the “Breakthrough Project”, CUEB will promote the “Five Measures” and “Nine Tasks”. CUEBers should work together with confidence and overcome difficulties to write a new chapter of development.

The commission nominated and appointed heads of first-level disciplines, outlining through the President Office. An appointment ceremony for the heads of disciplines took place in the conference.
