Fostering Global Connects on Campus: School of International Education Debuts Language Corner
On the evening of May 23, the Student Union of the School of International Education at CUEB held the first Language Corner at the Hongmiao Campus. The activity brought together 32 Chinese and international students, including participants from the School of Foreign Studies, the Overseas Chinese College, and the Youth Exchange Delegation from University of Toronto. This marked the first language exchange initiative led by the School of International Education, breathing new vitality into campus cultural exchanges. Featuring language practice, interactive games, and cultural sharing sessions, this initiative provided a platform for students from different countries and regions to engage in cultural exchanges. Let’s listen to their enthusiastic feedback. Adams, Vice President of the Student Union of the School of International Education: The Language Corner is one of the most influential projects I’ve been involved in. This platform helps international students improve their Chinese and Chinese students their English skills; more importantly, it builds a bridge of cross-cultural friendship. We saw that the participants gained knowledge and joy, which aligns with our aspiration. I would like to thank the strong support from the School of International Education and the hard work of the organizing committee. Ada, Deputy Secretary of the CUEB Youth League Committee at the School of Foreign Studies: The Cultural Bond segment in the opening was truly impressive, connecting cultures all over the world. The enthusiasm of the international students and the professionalism of the organizers made this debut a great success. I look forward to more cooperation in the future to keep the Language Corner going well.
Liliana, the planner: From the thoughtfully-curated international snacks to the carefully designed ‘Rotating Dialogue’ session, every detail was designed to ensure participants feel welcomed and valued. When I saw the students dancing spontaneously to the music, laughing and chatting freely, I was truly moved by the sense of cultural integration they experienced. The activity attracted 32 Chinese and international students, whose enthusiasm served as the best recognition of our efforts.
Hayriddin, an international student from Tajikistan: The professional organization created a relaxing atmosphere for me to make new friends more easily. Although the conversations focused on daily life, these authentic language exchanges were very precious. This activity embodies our university’s core values of “Inclusion, Respect, and Openness.” When different languages interact and cultural differences transform into mutual understanding, we realize that language is more than a tool for communication—it becomes a bridge connecting hearts across cultures.
This activity successfully created a platform for meaningful exchanges between Chinese and international students, enriching campus life with cultural diversity. In the future, the Language Corner promises to grow as a dynamic hub for intercultural dialogues between different civilizations, where the seeds of cross-border friendships can take root and flourish in the fertile soil of cultural integration.
