On the morning of March 28, CUEB held the 2024 conference on publicity work of ideology and culture with the theme “Study and Implement Xi Jinping Thought on Culture, Promote High-quality Development of CUEB’s Publicity Work of Ideology and Culture”. Wang Wenju, CUEB Party Secretary, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Xu Fang, CUEB Deputy Party Secretary, chaired the meeting.

In his speech, Wang Wenju fully affirmed the achievements of the school’s ideological and cultural publicity work (hereafter the publicity) in 2023 and put forward work requirements for 2024. He remarked that the Party Central Committee attached great importance to the work. Xi Jinping’s Thought on Culture was first put forward and explained at the National Conference on Publicity of Ideology and Culture, marking a new level of the Party’s understanding of the laws of socialist cultural construction with Chinese characteristics. This provides a powerful ideological and scientific guide to carry out publicity work in the new era and undertake new cultural missions.

CUEB Party Committee valued the publicity work and put forward “Party building leading cultural construction” in the report of the Fifth Party Congress. We must remain true to the original aspiration of fostering virtues through education, and bear in mind the mission of cultivating personnel for the Party and the country.

First, we must raise our political awareness and strengthen education in theory. We must adhere to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era (the Thought) as our guide, fully implement the guiding principles from the 20th CPC National Congress and the Second Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, deeply study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Culture, profoundly understand the decisive significance of the “Two Affirmations”, enhance the “Four Consciousness”, firmly uphold the “Four-sphere Confidence”, and achieve the “Two Upholds”. We must further raise our political stance, consolidate, and expand the achievements of thematic education, and promote the normalization and long-term effectiveness of learning and implementing the Thought. In accordance with the deployment requirements of the CUEB Party Committee, we must adhere to the leadership of Party building in cultural construction, and continuously improve the effectiveness of learning.

Second, we must focus on the central work and serve the overall development, which is the basic responsibility of the publicity work. We must have a global perspective, grasp the overall situation, focus on major issues, and identify the entry points and focus of publicity. We must adhere to the overall working pattern of “strengthening capabilities internally, building image externally, strengthening construction, deepening reform, and enhancing quality”, as well as to the “two-step” development plan. While completing major tasks and promoting key tasks of the school, we should play a good role in guiding public opinion with ideology and culture, as well as rallying positive efforts to promote the development of the school and the unity and progress of teachers and students.

Third, we must strengthen positive publicity and try to get the story of CUEB across. We must adhere to the Party’s management of publicity and ideology, enhance positive ideological guidance, consolidate, and strengthen the mainstream ideology and public opinion, highlight the theme of the times, and continue to focus on promoting the unity and cohesion of the school’s development. We must focus on the “Six Major Projects” and “Six Major Guidance” proposed in the School’s Party Congress report, as well as key tasks such as personnel training in the digital transformation, the construction of cross-disciplinary platforms for the digital economy. In the meantime, do a good job in typical publicity and achievement publicity to create a public opinion atmosphere of entrepreneurship and hard work. We must do well in external publicity by effectively telling the story of CUEB to create a positive image for CUEB.

At the meeting, Xu Fang conveyed the spirit of the national and municipal leadership’s meeting of the publicity department. She underscored the evolving landscape and responsibilities of our publicity efforts, urging a fresh mindset and innovative accomplishments. It is imperative to strengthen our political stance, deepen our understanding, align with the directives from the national publicity conference, aptly grasp emerging challenges and objectives, diligently execute diverse tasks within our school, and continuously promote new achievements in our school’s publicity endeavors to unprecedented heights.

Fu Lin, member of the Standing Committee of the CUEB Party Committee and Minister of the Party Committee Publicity Department, summarized the work in 2023, and explained key issues in 2024.

At the meeting, the school commended the exemplary departments in 2023, the awards for effective learning of theoretical knowledge, innovative projects in cultural construction, awards for new media platform construction, and outstanding individuals in publicity work.
