On the afternoon of October 18, Party Secretary Wang Wenju delivered a lecture on “Learning and Implementing the Spirit of the Party’s 20th National Congress: To be Qualified Youth who have lofty ideals, dare to shoulder responsibilities, and work hard in the New Era” for the Student Leaders Training Camp of Class 2023. It was to enhance student leaders’ competence to serve as role models, promote comprehensive qualities, keep integrating ideological and political education into class construction and students’ daily life, and to give a full play to their capacity for self-teaching, self-oversight and self-service. Present at the lecture was Meng Bo, Deputy Party Secretary, Wang Jinbo, Director of the Student Affairs Department of the Party Committee, Hu Wen, Secretary of the Youth League Committee, together with 489 student leaders. The lecture was chaired by Ji Yanyan, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Department of the Party Committee.

In his lecture, Wang comprehensively interpreted the Spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and illustrated student leaders’ missions and the role of CUEBers in the new era.

Guided by the theme of comprehensively studying the Spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, Wang interpreted the strategic plans, led all the participants to review the Party’s work over the last five years and great transformation over the past decade of the new era. He said that as the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is now on an irreversible historical trend, Chinese youth of the new era should stay confident in the path, theory, system and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics, so as to dedicate our youth to building a modern socialist country in all respects.

Centered on the well-deserved recognition and expectation from General Secretary Xi Jinping, Wang, by taking the young volunteers in Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Hangzhou Asian Games as examples, fulfilled their vigorous spirits and historical missions on ideological, practical and spiritual levels. Wang stressed that Chinese youth, in the new era of prosperity, prove to be a whole-process witness, participant and contributor of building China into a great modern socialist country. Young people should deeply understand 10 affirmations and 14 commitments (see the notes at the end for more details), steadfastly follow the Party and its guidance and shoulder the historical missions in the new journey in the new era.

At the end, Wang encouraged young people to display their full talents on a broader arena where they have incomparably bright prospects to realize their dreams. He expected them to uphold lofty ideals, draw on their strong points and offset weaknesses in standing up for what is right, and drive forward the great cause with the spirit of upholding fundamental principles and breaking new ground, so as to become prouder in their identity, to develop a deeper love for the country and carry the love throughout college years and career pursuits, to become more competent and learned. Wang hopes that student leaders would contribute wisdom, solutions and strength to better answering the questions posed by China, by the world, by the people, and by the times, and make contributions to CUEB.
