CUEB Holds 2024 Alumni Homecoming Conference
On the morning of October 20, the 2024 Alumni Homecoming Conference (hereafter the Conference) was held in CUEB Square. Over 1,800 people attended the conference, including Wang Wenju, CUEB Party Secretary; Wu Weixing, Deputy Party Secretary of CUEB, President of CUEB and Alumni Homecoming Conference; Xu Fang and Ouyang Qin, Deputy Party Secretary; Mao Baizhan, Standing Committee of CUEB Party Committee and Secretary of Discipline Inspection Commission; Yao Linxiu, Chen Yanbin and Li Kunpeng, Standing Committee of CUEB Party Committee and Vice President of CUEB; Zhao Guang, Standing Committee of CUEB Party Committee and Director of Organization Development and United Front Work Division of the Party Committee; Fu Lin, Standing Committee of CUEB Party Committee and Director of the Publicity Department; heads of relevant functional departments, heads in charge of the Alumni Association of each school, members of the 4th Council of the Alumni Association, representatives of domestic and overseas Alumni Associations, and alumni at home and abroad and so on. The conference was presided over by Yin Zhichao, Vice President of CUEB, member of the Standing Committee of CUEB Party Committee, and Vice President of the Standing Council of the Alumni Association.
The school folk music orchestra kicked off the conference with a wonderful performance. Yin Zhichao then introduced the attendees at the onset of the event.
Wu Weixing delivered an impassioned address at the conference, extending sincere greetings to alumni from afar. He emphasized that alumni are the carriers of a university’s educational capacity and social reputation, as well as driving forces for the university’s development. He extended sincere gratitude to alumni for their long-term concern and support for CUEB’s development.
Wu introduced CUEB’s significant achievements in discipline construction, personal training, scientific research, social services and campus improvement thanks to CUEBers’ persistent efforts. He expected that alumni would continue to support CUEB’s development by pooling their strengths, resources, and wisdom.
At the conference, the flag handover ceremony was held. Xu Fang and Ouyang Qin presented alumni representatives with a flag at the handover ceremony. On behalf of their respective classes, Chen Qiang, a 1984 graduate, Luo Dong, a 1994 graduate, Wang Kaidi, a 2004 graduate and Li Lang, a 2014 graduate received the flag. In front of all participants, the flag was handed over to Chang Yu, a 1985 graduate, Guo Hongwei, a 1995 graduate, Guo Xin, a 2005 graduate and Du Jingtian, a 2015 graduate. The flag handover ceremony, connecting alumni and CUEB, symbolizes the continuation of the CUEB spirit.
In order to strengthen communication among alumni and provide them with better services, CUEB appoints alumni liaisons every year. A total of 164 alumni were appointed as alumni liaisons this year. At the conference, Mao Baizhan, Yao Linxiu, Chen Yanbin and Li Kunpeng presented appointment letters to representatives of alumni liaisons. These liaisons will serve as bridges to connect the alumni and school, enhancing the alumni’s cohesion and sense of belonging.
Luo Dong, a graduate of the Class of 1990 in CUEB majoring in labor economics, Chairperson of Alumni Association (AA) of Human Resources and the General Manager of Beijing Orient Huibo Human Resource Consulting Co., Ltd, delivered a speech on behalf of the homecoming alumni. She recalled the wonderful moments in CUEB, expressing her sincere gratitude to CUEB and her teachers for their education. She was also proud of the development of CUEB. Luo said that CUEB’s education benefits alumni for a lifetime, and the school motto “Advocate Morality, Value Competence, Strategize National Development, and Serve the People” encourages CUEBers to stay true to their original aspirations and forge ahead with fortitude. In addition, she expected that all alumni could make joint efforts to contribute to the progress of Alma Mater, the overall development of Beijing and the prosperity of the country.
Wang Wenju expressed his warm welcome to the alumni, expecting to reminisce about old times and seek common development with them. He noted that guided by Xi Jingping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, CUEB implements the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the National Education Conference, and adheres to the Party’s overall leadership to pursue the integrated development of education, sci-tech, and qualified personnel. Taking priority of national strategic needs and the development of capital in the new era, CUEB also promotes its reform and development, leading to a series of remarkable achievements.
He mentioned that CUEB would promote interdisciplinary integration and strengthen disciplines by optimizing discipline distribution in its future development. CUEB would seize the opportunity in digital and intelligent transformation to innovate the modes of personnel training and refine teachers’ educational skills. In order to address national and capital major strategic issues and social demands, it will establish a “matrix-style” research mode to converge new momentum for serving the nation and the capital. He noted that CUEB is also building platforms and providing resources for alumni, to strengthen its connection with alumni with better services, deeper exchanges and closer cooperation. He encouraged alumni to carry forward CUEB’s expectations, dedicating themselves to the development of the nation with higher spirits.
At the end of the conference, the choir of CUEB and all participants jointly sang the “Ode to the Motherland”, wishing China and CUEB a more prosperous and better future.
Before the conference, Ouyang Qin and Yin Zhichao met with overseas alumni representatives in Boyuan Building and Chang Hall, including Zhang Feng, Vice President of the Australian AA and the graduate of the Class of 1984 in CUEB majoring in information management, Wei Liqian, Vice President and Secretary General of AA and the postgraduate of the Class of 1997 in CUEB majoring in accounting, Zhang Jianhui, a graduate from Canada of the Class of 1987 majoring in economics mathematics and Wang Xiaohua, a graduate from America of the Class of 1988 majoring in economics. They had an in-depth discussion on how to enhance the exchanges with overseas alumni and how to pool their strengths for CUEB’s development. The directors, from Fengtai District Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, United Front Work Department of School Party Committee, CUEB Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and the CUEB Alumni Association, also attended the meeting.
After the conference, alumni engaged in various activities organized by the school. CUEB welcomed alumni coming from afar in such a beautiful season in October, allowing them to relive campus life, rekindle friendships, and share their expectations.
