On the afternoon of November 18th, the first “Grow up, CUEBers” Activity of this semester was held at the Party Member’s Home in Boyuan Building. The school’s Party Secretary Han Xianzhou talked and exchanged with the students on how to be the youth of the new era and answered practical issues in career planning, employment development, and ability improvement. This event was hosted by Ma Li, President of Office of Student Affairs.

From the perspective of understanding the new era, Han Xianzhou pointed out that young people in the new era should have ideals, skills, and responsibilities. Starting from the goals of the period in which the timeframes of the Two Centenary Goals will converge, the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind, and the objectives of youth cultivation, he used vivid and rich historical events and cited a large number of data and classic cases to explain the complicated situation at home and abroad and the development course of the country, and to expound the concrete connotation of the “New Era” for the students.

Han Xianzhou introduced the young people in the eyes of General Secretary Xi Jinping. He pointed out that what kind of people to cultivate is the primary issue of education in the new era. He summarized General Secretary Xi Jinping’s evaluation of young people from several aspects, such as high affirmation, eager concern, high hopes and clear direction. By interpreting the five messages of General Secretary Xi Jinping to young students and medical workers during the epidemic in 2020, he pointed out the ardent hopes of the Party and the country for young students.

Han Xianzhou shared with the students how to be a newcomer of the era. He suggested that students should understand the situation, grasp the direction of the times, study diligently, think well, find the right position and make a difference. They should try to answer the three questions of “my college life’, “individual and society” and “new era and I”. He specifically mentioned that students should develop the good habit of reading more, strive to form correct and confident views, and strive to be young people with ideals, skills, and responsibilities.

After the topic sharing, Han Xianzhou had an open dialogue with the students present, and conducted in-depth exchanges with the students on how to distinguish the true and false news information, the development of college students discharged from active military service, graduate employment choices, and academic planning in campus.

During the activity, Lu Yang, a 2024 undergraduate student of the School of Labor Economics with a specialty in painting   drew a character sketch of Secretary Han Xianzhou, expressing his gains and insights from participating in the event.
