On the afternoon of December 10th, the conference report by Beijing Publicity Group on studying the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session 19th Central Committee of the CPC was held in CUEB. Han Xianzhou, a member of the Publicity Department of Beijing Committee of the CPC and Secretary of the CUEB Party Committee, made a report on “Cultivating talent for the Party and the Country and lead young people in China to rise up to the mission of national rejuvenation.” Xu Fang, the Deputy Party Secretary of CUEB, presided over the report.

Nearly 300 people attended, including the Standing Committee members of the Party Committee of CUEB, cadres at the level of director, the teacher’s Party Secretary of School, youth cadre representatives, Party Secretaries and counselors of schools, representatives of People’s Congress at all levels (who are not staff of the CPC), CPPCC members and the leaders of the grassroots democratic parties, Representatives of the School Information Association, and the Retention Association. Gao Yaxiong, the theory publicity department director of Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, and Li Lin, the first steering group liaison of Party history education in the Beijing education system also attended. Han Xianzhou had an in-depth communication with the representatives of teachers and students.

In the report, Han Xianzhou stressed that to fully grasp the significance of the sixth Plenary Session, we must approach it from three aspects: a profound understanding of the significance of the sixth Plenary Session; earnestly grasping the essence of the spirit of the sixth Plenary Session; and cultivating talent for the Party and the Country. First, the sixth Plenary Session is a key historical juncture. It is important in both a practical and historical sense to have a comprehensive review of the major achievements and historical experience of the Party over the past century as we celebrate its centenary and the fulfillment of the First Centenary Goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and move on toward the second centenary goal of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects. Second, the sixth Plenary Session stands at a special historical position. The new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics is a new historic juncture in China’s development. In this new era, we must pursue national rejuvenation in a world that is undergoing momentous changes of a kind never seen in a century, size up the situation and grasp the historical initiative. Third, the historical agenda of this sixth Plenary Session is of great importance. Such a major historic and strategic decision can only be made at a major historical juncture. Han said the historical resolution aims to enhance the political, ideological, and organizational unity of the whole Party, build the consensus, and unify the will and actions of the whole Party, so as to lay a more solid ideological foundation and more active spiritual strength for the Party to embark on a new journey.

Han Xianzhou said we should repeatedly read the Resolution of the Central Committee of the CPC on the Major Achievements and Historical Experience of the Party over the Past Century, thinking deeply about the questions it raises and putting it within the context of our own experience. The Resolution makes a systematic exposition of the major strategies, work and measures adopted by the Party in governance since the 18th CPC National Congress in 13 areas, with a focus on summarizing original ideas, revolutionary practices, breakthroughs, and landmark achievements. Our Party has established Xi Jinping’s core position on the Central Committee and in the Party as a whole and defined the guiding role of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. This reflects the common will of the Party, the armed forces, and all the Chinese people, and is of decisive significance for advancing the cause of the Party and the country in the new era and for driving forward the historic process of national rejuvenation. “Ten Definiteness” summarizes the core content of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

Han said that studying, publicizing, and implementing the spirit of the sixth Plenary Session is a major political task at present and in the future. First, we should learn from history to create a bright future and handle the current affairs more soberly and resolutely. Every Party member must bear in mind what the Party is and what its mission is. We should understand the importance and connotation of upholding the party’s overall leadership from a scientific perspective. Second, we must thoroughly understand President Xi’s important remarks on education. We have worked to implement the Party’s education policy in full and given priority to educational development. We have made it clear that the fundamental task of education is to foster virtue and nurture a new generation of capable young people with the moral grounding, intellectual ability, physical vigor, aesthetic sensibility, and work skills needed to join and carry on the socialist cause. Thirdly, we should learn President Xi’s important discourse on youth. A nation will prosper only when its young people thrive; a country will be full of hope and have a great future only when its younger generations have ideals, ability, and a strong sense of responsibility. Finally, we must focus on the fundamental task of fostering virtue and nurturing a new generation. The school will further focus on the ideological and political aspects of the curriculum, grasping firmly the unique characteristics of this challenge. We need to consolidate the current atmosphere of education. The strong force of this atmosphere will be further turned into a powerful driving force for CUEB in personnel training, scientific research, social service, cultural inheritance and innovation and other work.

The report was presided over by Xu Fang

Yang Yanfei, Student Party Branch secretary of the School of Labor Economics pointed out that as Student Party Branch secretary, “I should actively take responsibilities, learn from example through continuously improving myself while giving a clear explanation to party member comrades in the party branch of what I’ve learned. All these, I believe, will lead more comrades to do their work in the same way.”

Sun Mingchun, Deputy Party secretary of the School of Law, said that Han made a thorough explanation on the Party’s history with simple examples and clarified some misunderstandings on certain questions. With this, we need to realize that university counselors are the backbones of consolidating ideological and political awareness. Only when we understand the spirit can we better guide students to learn, follow and carry forward this message. We should firmly keep in mind the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, and try our best to become excellent counselors with faith, passion, responsibility and hope.”

I think the Plenary itself is an especially vivid teaching material. As Secretary of Party Branch, I will continue to organize teachers in the branch to learn and follow the Plenary’s spirits. As a teacher, I will, in ideological and political courses, take vivid examples of fostering virtue through education through the moving stories and advanced ideals in the Party’s history so as to lead students in learning about the struggle of the CPC and setting up lofty ideals.”

Xu Jingyao, from the Party Committee Student Affairs Department, said that “Han’s report is wide-ranging and vivid, thoughtful, instructive and based on the reality of our university. It was a party lecture itself, further deepening my understanding on the Plenary’s spirit, strengthening my belief in innovative ways of building ideological and political courses. It also could help students find their course of life, integrate personal dreams into the Chinese Dream, and comprehensively improve the political awareness and practical skills of serving the country and the people.
