CUEB Holds Commendation Ceremony on the 39th Teachers’ Day
On the morning of September 8, CUEB held the 39th Teachers’ Day commendation ceremony at Zhuoyu Auditorium in Boyuan Building, themed “Commitment to building a leading country in education”. The ceremony was to commend retired faculty, teachers or staff who have been committed to education for 30 years, as well as individuals and groups who have made great achievements in education. Wang Wenju, Wu Weixing, Yao Linxiu, Chen Yanbin, and other relevant CUEB leaders attended the ceremony, which was presided over by Xu Fang, CUEB Deputy Party Secretary. Full-time leaders from each department of CUEB, retired faculty, all the teachers and staffs concerned, representatives of teachers, staffs, and students attended the ceremony.
Wang Wenju, CUEB Party Secretary, delivered a speech. In the address, he extended warm congratulations and sincere respect to all the teachers and staffs and expressed heartfelt gratitude to them. He emphasized that the development of CUEB relied on qualified teachers. With the joint efforts of all faculty and staff, CUEB has achieved a series of commendable achievements in Party Building, personnel cultivation, discipline construction, academic research, and other aspects this year. Currently, the university is at a crucial stage to work for high-quality development trialed by challenges and difficulties. It is necessary to consider deeply how to leverage the advantages of CUEB in building a leading country in education and serving the development of the capital in the new era.
Wang analyzed the new situations and tasks facing the country, the capital, higher education, and schools based on the spirit of recent important conferences held by the central government, Beijing Municipal, and schools. He put forward three suggestions for the construction of the teaching staff.
•First, taking high-quality development as the main line, we should adhere to leading the high-quality development of the teaching staff with high-quality Party building;
•Second, with disciplinary construction as the leading force, we should focus on talent cultivation, and serve China’s strategic needs;
•Third, maintaining reform and innovation as the driving force, we should improve the growth of teachers.
He expressed that all teachers in the school should focus on talent cultivation, adhere to the original aspiration of fostering virtue through education, take morale & ethics as the first standard, and teaching & education as our first responsibility. Standing on the front line of teaching and education, teachers should cultivate students to excel in academics, conduct and behavior. To meet the national strategy needs and serve the development of the capital in the new era, our teachers should focus on the construction of global digital economy benchmark cities, and take the lead in exploring digital economy, AI, mega city governance, coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, carbon peaking and carbon neutrality strategy, financial technology, and other aspects. We should also constantly leverage our enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity to adjust and optimize our development in line with our disciplinary construction layout, and update our knowledge system with the times. We should promote the integration of disciplinaries, of education with industry and science. Thus, our education should be goal-oriented, problem-oriented, and effect-oriented, and teachers should instruct the students to address practical research questions from the industry for more visible effects.

At the commendation ceremony, Wang Wenju, CUEB Party Secretary and Wu Weixing, CUEB Deputy Party Secretary and President, presented the “Service to the School Memorial Medal” to representatives of retired staffs who have made selfless contributions to the development of the school, and certificates and trophies to the staff who have been teaching for 30 years and have been steadfastly adhering to the original intention and fulfilling the mission for decades.
Yao Linxiu, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President, awarded medals, plaques and certificates in turn to representatives of collectives and individuals who won the honors of 2023 Capital Labor Medal, the 2023 Beijing Worker Pioneer, National Exemplary Workers’ Home of UNESCO and Health and Physical Education System, and the 2023 Beijing Education Union Advanced Teacher Home; and awarded certificates and trophies to role models of the Beijing Municipal Education System for teaching and educating, pioneers of teaching, managing and serving.
Chen Yanbin, Member of CUEB Standing Committee and Vice President, presented awards to the representatives of collectives and individuals who won the honors of the 19th Beijing Distinguished Teacher Award of Higher Education, the 7th Beijing Distinguished Young Teacher Award of Higher Education, high-level innovation teams in research and teaching, and outstanding students supported by Beijing Municipal Higher-education Construction Project, as well as student pioneers in social practice in Beijing and instructors honored in the “Challenge Cup" at the national and municipal levels.
During the ceremony, teacher representatives shared their stories of educating under the theme “Dedication to Education Strengthens Our Country”. Professor Yu Peng from the School of Accounting presented a speech on the topic of Constructing Integration in the Party and Cultivating Talents to Promote Development, sharing the experience of fully utilizing the leading role of Party building to the development of the "123" Project and a high-level outstanding team of his school, achieving a unique development trajectory. Professor Shang Huayan from the School of Management Engineering, delivered a presentation titled Upholding the Research Mission for the Country, Bearing the Mission of Strengthening the Nation, sharing insights from her research experience in a decade, highlighting keywords like "enthusiasm and persistence," "applying research into practices," and "teaching with compassion". Professor Du Pengcheng from the School of Economics presented a speech titled Dedication to Nurturing Students, Forging Ahead in the New Era, discussing the development for young teachers, focusing on aspects like "moral education," "education in research," and "education in practice". These teacher representatives not only showcased the noble ethics and rigorous scholarship but also provided valuable experience and insights for all teachers.
Then, the representatives of newly recruited faculty pledged to carry forward the fine traditions of the older generation, paid tribute to retired faculty and those dedicated 30 years to education. They also pledged to keep their mission in mind to cultivate talents for the Party and the country, and contribute to the development of CUEB.
The Publicity Department of the Party Committee has produced a special video titled "Dedication to Education Strengthens Our Country." to celebrate the 39th Teachers' Day. The video revolves around questions such as "What kind of teacher do you consider a model?" "How do teachers embody the standards of a 'model teacher'?" and "In the construction of education for our country, how should teachers assume their responsibilities?" It showed the ambitions of the CUEB teaching staff to strengthen our country in education, as well as their admirable spirit of dedicating themselves to teaching and nurturing students.
To pay tribute to our sincere teachers, students from CUEB Folk Music Orchestra and Dance Troupe presented an elaborate performance, a Chinese music ensemble titled Gaoshan Qing (Green High Mountain) and an original dance drama called Chun • Man (Spring • Wander) as a gift to the teachers.
After attending the ceremony, faculty members were greatly moved. Zhang Xuesen, a teacher from the School of Marxism Studies, shared that, "Participating in the ceremony for new faculty members is deeply moving. I got a glimpse of the charisma of the older generation and felt the excellent legacy of CUEB. As a new teacher, I keenly feel the responsibility on my shoulders. I will adhere to the oath, strive for learning and progress, and make more contributions to our school with my knowledge and enthusiasm."
Niu Zhenghao, a faculty member from the School of Law, expressed his feeling, "Through this ceremony, I deeply feel the atmosphere of respecting teachers and valuing education. I will take the outstanding senior teachers who have devoted themselves to education as role models，adhere to the initial mission of cultivating talents for the Party and the country while improving my teaching skills. I will devote myself to education, engaging in research, to serve the strategic needs of the country and contribute to the society."
It is said that in the celebration of the 39th Teachers' Day, Teachers Affairs Department of the School Party Committee planned activities under the theme "Dedication to Education Strengthens Our Country." These activities are closely aligned to build a strong education system in the country. They organized events such as Teacher Ethics and Culture Month, which delved into thematic education and moral education, focusing on the spirit of teachers who love the Party and our country, uphold ethics, and are self-confident and resilient. These activities aim to rally teachers in nurturing students with Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fulfill their mission of cultivating students for the Party and the country, accelerating the development of a strong education system, and promote the high-quality development of our school.
