CUEB Welcomes New Students at Matriculation Ceremony

On the morning of September 7, Capital University of Economics and Business (CUEB) welcomed new students of Grade 2023 at a grand matriculation ceremony . Wang Wenju, Secretary of CUEB Party Committee, President Wu Weixing, Xu Fang, Deputy Secretary of CUEB Party Committee, Mao Baizhan, Member of Standing Committee of CUEB Party Committee and Secretary of the Disciplinary Committee, and Yao Linxiu, Chen Yanbin (Yao and Chen are members of the Standing Committee of CUEB Party Committee and Vice Presidents) attended the ceremony. Meng Bo, Deputy Secretary of CUEB Party Committee, presided over the ceremony.

The ceremony kicked off with the original song “Future in Your Hands” by new CUEBers.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Wu Weixing, extended a warm welcome and congratulations to new CUEBers. Wu encouraged them to adapt to the new environment, set up lofty ideals, give a full play to their potentials and grow into qualified professionals. He put forward three expectations.

First, build physical and mental well-being to lay a solid foundation for the future. He emphasized the importance of self-discipline, reasonable schedule, and regular exercise, encouraged them to have a global perspective with a loving heart and a tough will, and carry forward the “Camel Spirit” in the lifelong journey.

Second, unite knowing and doing. He encouraged them to read extensively, practice actively, think critically, and explore deeply for better commitments to the society.

Third, align personal goals with the grand mission for national rejuvenation. He expected that they could serve the capital development and advance social progress with domain knowledge and skills in the new era.


Wu remarked that CUEB will target the national strategic needs and major issues of the capital development, and strive to provide better platforms for students. New CUEBers are highly expected to harbor “The Top Priorities of the Country”, “advocate morality, value competence”, “strategize national development, and serve the people” and forge ahead with sincerity and original aspiration.

Professor Li Kunpeng, Dean of International School of Economics and Management, delivered a speech as the faculty representative. Based on the mission of our university, and his own experience, Li presented four expectations for the new CUEBers to live a fulfilling life: first, lay a solid foundation for learning and study hard to gain knowledge without laches; second, brave challenges with perseverance; third, cultivate morality and value with positive attitude; fourth, serve the country and the world.

Xie Jinyu, a doctoral student of Grade 2021 from the School of Economics, shared his academic journey at CUEB in the past nine years: “exploration”, “accumulation”, and “diligence”. He encouraged new students to establish a solid foundation in their chosen fields, embrace campus life, and pursue academic goals. He also hoped that they would excel in their domains and meet the social needs, thus living CUEB motto, that is to: “advocate morality, value competence, strategize national development, and serve the people”.

On behalf of new students, Zhang Luwei, a freshman from the School of Law, and Yang Shuyan, a new postgraduate from the School of Marxism Studies, delivered speeches. Zhang shared her joy and nervousness as a new comer. She highlighted that she would seize opportunities, meet challenges, maintain firm ideals and convictions, apply knowledge to practice, and comprehensively improve herself. Focusing on the “aspiration of the youth and the development of the homeland”, Yang emphasized that postgraduates should have high ambition and act in a down-to-earth attitude, for the accomplishment of aspiration lies in study, diligence, and innovation.

CUEB leaders pinned the university badge on the uniform of student representatives. The badge is a crystallization of CUEB culture and spirit as well as an identification of CUEBers and a mark of legacy. This serves as a reminder to new CUEBers to answer the call of the time with “Camel Spirit” and university motto, to shoulder responsibilities of “developing the country and serving the people”.

Zang Jiake, a freshman from the School of Statistics, made an oath with student representatives from all schools facing the university flag. Zhou Quanshi, a new doctoral student from the School of Management and Engineering, representing all new students, presented a signed banner to Wang Wenju, Secretary of CUEB Party Committee, and made a solemn commitment to the university.

To support new CUEBers and cultivate them to be capable young people with sound moral grounding, intellectual ability, physical vigor, aesthetic sensibility, and work skills, our leaders bestowed 7 kinds of specially designed gifts, including “Book Shopping List”, “Super Network Card”, “Knowledge & Practice Express”, “Internship VIP”, “Special Tutors”, and “Lucky Gift”, to 14 lucky students in a random selection with best wishes.

The directors of functional departments, secretaries, deans, and vice secretaries of all schools, counselors, class advisers, and new students attended the ceremony. More than 4,000 viewers, including parents of new students, attended the ceremony online via Xiaoetong, a streaming platform.
