CUEB Holds the Fourth Carbon Neutrality and Climate Finance Forum

On March 30, the fourth “Carbon Neutrality and Climate Finance Forum” was held at CUEB. Themed “Climate Risk and Digital Governance”, the forum was co-hosted by the International Society for Energy Transition Studies (ISETS), the Energy Finance Professional Committee, and the Climate Finance Research Branch of Chinese Society of Optimization, Overall Planning and Economic Mathematics, and organized by the School of Finance of CUEB and the China ESG Institute. Several experts and scholars attended this forum.

The forum was presided over by Professor Zhou Kaiguo, Dean of the School of Finance of CUEB. At the opening ceremony, Professor Yin Zhichao, member of the Party Committee and Vice President of CUEB, and Zhang Dayong, Vice Chairman of ISETS and Professor of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE), delivered opening speeches. Professors on this forum carried out in-depth discussions on such topics as “Provincial Carbon Quota Allocation for Goals of Carbon Peaking”, “Industrial Carbon Emission Reduction Effects of Carbon Trading in China” and “Reflections on Energy Transformation for Goals of Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality”.

Several important guests delivered speeches. Professor Wang Wenju, Secretary of the Party Committee of CUEB, gave a keynote speech on “Provincial Carbon Quota Allocation for Goals of Carbon Peaking”. Then, Professor Liu Xuexin, Dean of the College of Business Administration of CUEB and Director of the China ESG Institute, hosted the first keynote report. Professor Zhang Yuejun, Vice Dean of the School of Business Administration of Hunan University, shared the report (online) on “Beware of the ‘Green Swan’: Climate Risks and Volatility of the International Crude Oil Market”. The two experts put forward new insights and suggestions for research in the field.

The second keynote report, moderated by Professor Ji Qiang, Executive Director of the Discipline Research Support Center of the Institutes of Science and Development, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASISD). Professor Wen Fenghua from the School of Business of Central South University delivered a keynote report on “Palpitations from Afar: Executive Emotional Attachment Disasters and Corporate Risk Taking”. Following that, Professor Wei Yu from the School of Finance of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics gave a report titled “The Diverse Impacts of Chinese Carbon Neutral Bonds on the Renewable Energy Stock Market”. This session brought forward cutting-edge theoretical perspectives and insights.

The third keynote report was presided over by Associate Professor Zhao Daping, Vice Dean of the School of Finance of CUEB. Mei Dewen, Vice Chairman of the Beijing Green Exchange, Wu Furong, Head of the Greater China Region of CDP Global Environmental Information Research Center, and Professor Wang Kai, Vice Dean of the China ESG Institute of CUEB, delivered reports respectively on “Carbon Market Status and Prospects under the Background of Carbon Tariffs and Carbon Neutrality”, “Climate Information Disclosure Supporting Green Transformation” and “ESG Development, Issues, and Prospects”.

The fourth keynote report was moderated by researcher Sun Xiaolei, Deputy Director of the Institute of Systems Analysis and Management of CASISD. Professor Zhou Kaiguo, delivered a report on “Industrial Carbon Emission Reduction Effects of Carbon Trading in China”. Professor Peng Yuchao, Vice Dean of the School of Finance of the Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE), delivered a speech on “High-temperature Climate Exposure and Global Value Chain Embedding” from the perspective of production span.

The fifth keynote report was chaired by CUEB’s Professor He Feng, Director of the Department of Finance of the School of Finance. Professor Steven Dellaportas from Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University shared important information of English journals as a journal editorial board member.

In addition, the forum also included a roundtable discussion. Experts from various fields across the country were invited, including Associate Professor Guo Kun, Executive Director of the Carbon Neutrality and Climate Finance Laboratory ofCAS Reasearch Center On Fictitious Economy & Data Science; Professor Li Xinming, Director of the Academic Exchange Center of the School of Finance of Nankai University; Professor Ni Xiaoran from the School of Economics and the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics of Xiamen University; Professor Wang Yudong from the School of Economics and Management of Nanjing University of Science and Technology (online); Professor Zhang Qunzi, Vice Dean of the School of Economics of Shandong University; Associate Professor Gong Xu from the China Institute for Studies in Energy Policy of the School of Management of Xiamen University; Professor Ma Feng from the School of Economics and Management of Southwest Jiaotong University; Associate Professor Ren Xiaohang from the School of Business of Central South University; Professor Yin Libo from the School of Finance of the Central University of Finance and Economics; Postdoctoral Fellow Zhai Pengxiang from Beihang University; and Professor Gao Haoyu from the School of Finance of Renmin University of China. The experts engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as “Carbon Market Status and Prospects under the Background of Carbon Peaking” and “Climate Risk and Digital Governance”.

Finally, Zhang Dayong, Vice Chairman of ISETS and Professor of SWUFE, concluded the forum. This forum provided valuable opportunities for participants to exchange ideas and promote the dissemination of knowledge about carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. We look forward to more academic exchanges to jointly advance green and low-carbon development.
