CUEB Shines in 2025 ShanghaiRanking: Applied Economics Tops 10 and 7 Disciplines Listed
On October 15, ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, a leading global higher education evaluator, formally unveiled the 2025 ShanghaiRanking China Best Disciplines Ranking. Seven disciplines from CUEB were listed, namely Applied Economics, Business Administration, Statistics, Theoretical Economics, Management Science and Engineering, Law, and Public Administration. Applied Economics saw substantial gains, rising steadily to crack the national top 10 for the first time—ranked 5th among finance and economics institutions and 1st among Non-Double First-Class universities. Both Applied Economics and Business Administration were designated “First-Class Disciplines” per ShanghaiRanking’s criteria (ShanghaiRanking Terminology).

The 2025 ShanghaiRanking China Best Disciplines Ranking covers 98 first-class disciplines and five professional degree categories. It evaluates all Chinese universities offering graduate degree programs in these fields, publishing the top 50% of ranked disciplines per category. This year, 5,344 disciplinary programs from 517 universities made the list.
The ranking system comprises five indicator categories—Talent Cultivation, Platform Projects, Achievements Awards, Academic Papers, and High-End Talent—with 19 sub-indicators and over 200 observational metrics reflecting disciplinary competitiveness. All ranking data derives from authoritative sources including the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology, National Natural Science Foundation of China, and international and domestic academic databases.

Since the Fifth Party Congress, CUEB has implemented the “Breakthrough Project” to enhance discipline construction, promoting dynamic adjustment and interdisciplinary integration of disciplines to strengthen its capacity to serve national and Beijing’s economic and social development. The achievements in this discipline ranking concretely reflect the implementation of the Fifth Party Congress spirit. Moving forward, CUEB will align its discipline construction with national first-class discipline standards, adhering to the “selective focus and prioritized action” principle to drive high-quality development.
