CUEB Launches 2024 “Understanding China” Series
In line with the directives from the Ministry of Education and Beijing Education System for Next Generation Care Working Committee, CUEB continued to carry out the “Understanding China” events in 2024. Under the leadership of CUEB Party Committee and the Working Committee, all Committees of secondary schools advanced diverse and vibrant activities themed “Building a great China by education”. These activities yielded remarkable outcomes, including visits to 23 individuals from the “Five Olds” (retired officials, war veterans, old experts, old teachers, old workers, and model citizens), the production of 16 interview articles, 3 micro-videos, and the performance of 2 stage plays.
Led by all Committees from secondary schools, faculty and students of CUEB engaged in face-to-face exchanges with the “Five Olds” representatives, delving deeply into their life experiences, ideals, struggles, and dedication in fostering Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and strengthening education.
Each article, video, and stage production was filled with wishes and expectations of the “Five Olds” for the students as they forge ahead on the new journey, while also bearing the respect, emotions and determination of CUEBers to strive for success.
Next Generation Care Working Committee of the School of Economics held a “Five Olds” exchange session. In the session, Professor Wen Kui, former President of CUEB, and Professor Zhu Weiqi, former Director of the Economics Department of Beijing Institute of Economics, recounted their experiences as students and educators and the development of the economics discipline to motivate students to cultivate their critical thinking skills and innovative spirits. Simultaneously, the committee organized a stage play contest themed “Understanding the Past, Creating the Future,” where young students portrayed older educators to show their charm, patriotism, ideals, and beliefs.
Professor Cui Yeguang, former Dean of the School of Accounting and member of its Committee, inspired young students to pursue excellence and integrity to jointly build the “Accounting Dream” of CUEBers.
Li Jianting and Yu Kunyi, two retired teachers and Party members from the School of Business Administration, witnessed and boosted the development of the Party and the country. They also gave instructions on how to apply knowledge to practice, and how to transcend personal interest for the common good.
Professor Ji Shao, from the School of Labor Economics and the Committee, for her spirit of “making solid progress”, inspired students to scale new heights in academics with confidence and courage to make innovations from scratch.
Retired teachers fully showed their enthusiasm for “working after retirement” through participation in “Understanding China” events, achieving both ideological and action-based education. The students experience a deep sense of patriotism, spirit, and educational wisdom of senior educators, expressing their desire to shoulder the responsibility of their generation and contribute to the country.
The Committee of CUEB is committed to furthering high-quality development by implementing the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, pooling strength for the “Five Olds” and joining the pattern of Broader Ideological and Political Education.
