CUEB Welcomes New Students on First Registration Day
On September 2, CUEB main campus and Hongmiao campus welcomed new students. Under the guidance of volunteers, students of the main campus entered the university from the north gate, west gate, east gate of the Overseas Chinese College, and west gate of Saiou Apartment in an orderly manner.
School of Finance, School of Statistics, Overseas Chinese College, International School of Economics and Management, School of Economics, School of Accounting, School of Culture and Communication, School of Data Science and other related departments set up counseling counters at Chongde Square and CUEB Square in the main campus, and the School of Business Administration set up counseling counters in the playground of Hongmiao campus to guide new students in registration.
Liu Ruoxuan, a freshman of the School of Culture and Communication, said that the registration process was smooth as the counselors had communicated with us in advance and the official Wechat account had pushed notifications about the registration sites and procedures. To make the registration go well, all schools contacted every new student to finish registration between September 2 and 3 and informed them of dormitory sites.
At around 8:00 a. m, CUEB Party Secretary Wang Wenju, Deputy Party Secretary and President Wu Weixing, Deputy Party Secretaries Xu Fang and Meng Bo, Vice President Li Xiaomu, and Mao Baizhan, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Secretary of Discipline Inspection Commission, Yin Zhichao, Yao Linxiu and Chen Yanbin, members of the Standing Committee of Party Committee and Vice Presidents, visited the counseling counters, registration sites at north gate, west gate, Minxing Building, and Student Apartment No.6. The leaders inquired in details about the preparation and progress of the registration and greeted new comers and their family members or friends as well as staff in charge.
They also paid a special visit to Zhang Huiyi, a new student of Overseas Chinese College, in Student Apartment No.6 and gave her a present for study. Due to the spinal cord injury, Zhang has been confined to the wheelchair since she was a child. On learning about this, the Office of CUEB Logistics Services set up a special room for her and her mother on the first floor of this apartment. The room is equipped with an indoor bathroom all the necessities for study and life. The Overseas Chinese College has also prepared a rest room in the office area to ensure Zhang’s study and facilitate her mother to look after her.
“I just hope that my basic living condition can be ensured, but now I have received much more care and love. I will try my best to finish the school courses to contribute to our university and the society as a way to express my sincere gratitude.” said Zhang Huiyi.
To welcome freshmen with various creativities, all schools offered distinctive welcome boards at counseling counter and many opening gifts like T-shirts, canvas bags, stationery sets, custom ceramic cups, fans, school badges, which can help new students to feel our “enthusiasm” on arriving campus!
CUEB Communist Youth League Committee organized over 80 volunteers to greet and guide new comers at each railway station and the campus entrance. All schools organized senior volunteers to help new students with luggage and belongings.
“Can I help you?” Wu Quankun, a volunteer of the School of Data Science, Class of 2021, offered to give a hand as he saw new students with luggage. As a junior student, he not only helped with the whole freshmen registration process, but generously shared his experience: “I hope that they could get established and keep working hard, enjoying a happy and rewarding university life.”
In order to make sure the registration in order, security guards dispersed the traffic in a bid to prevent traffic jams inside and outside the campus. And teachers of student apartments were considerate to set up check-in points on each floor, so that freshmen could settle their luggage first and then check in.
At the beginning of the new semester, CUEB launched a smart big data platform for the registration, displaying the real-time and dynamic registration of freshmen of each school in a visualization form. The platform has been put into service for systematic management of freshmen information as well as the visualization of real-time big data for registration, which has greatly improved work quality and efficiency.
