Editor’s Note: At the National Conference on Education, General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized the comprehensive implementation of the strategy for invigorating China through science and education, the strategy of developing a quality workforce, and the innovation-driven development strategy, the promotion of the integrated development of education, science and technology, and professionals. Since the 5th Party Congress of CUEB, the university has actively promoted reforms in the scientific research institutions and mechanisms, conducted organized research, and implemented the “Summit Project” to improve the quality of research. The Publicity Department (News Center) of CUEB will launch a series of “Research Summit” plans to demonstrate how the university’s high-level research teams proactively align with the country’s major strategies and Beijing’s development in the new era, engaging in forward-looking, strategic, and applied research practices.

The 20th CPC National Congress Report emphasized the development of new methods for macroeconomic regulation for high-quality economic growth, a key strategy for modern economic governance. In response, the School of Economics of CUEB established the Macroeconomic Theory and Policy Research Team (short for the Team) to conduct in-depth studies on quality and efficiency evaluation in China’s macro-economic operations, focusing on macro-economic theory and policies. The Team aims to support the high-quality development of both the capital and the country.

In recent years, the Team has secured approval for over 50 high-level research projects, including major and key projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC), major and general projects funded by the National Natural Science Fund of China (NNSFC), and major and key projects of philosophy and social sciences in key fields funded by the Ministry of Education.

The Team has published over 300 academic papers in various fields, including macro-economic theory and macro-policy evaluation, in key journals at home and abroad, such as Economic Research Journal and Management World, as well as in leading newspapers like People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, and Economic Daily. Additionally, the Team has published over 30 monographs in Chinese and English, winning many awards, including the outstanding achievement in Beijing Philosophy and Social Sciences. Some of the representative achievements of the Team are as follows:

Team members completed more than 20 policy-consultation projects and research reports for national and municipal departments, including the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform, and the Economic Committee of Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. In 2016, the report titled Conducting a Comprehensive and Reasonable Industrial Evaluation to Upgrade the Manufacturing Industry in China, was adopted by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. In 2024, the NDRC commissioned a major project titled The Analysis of the Medium- and Long-term Impacts on China’s Economy from the Factors and the Change of External Environment. The project provided an important basis for understanding China’s macroeconomic situation and trends, earning an appreciation letter from NDRC.

Over 17 years, the Team has been holding the national academic conference, namely “Forum on China Economic Growth and Business Cycle”, establishing a high-level exchange platform for scholars focusing on macroeconomic theory and policy evaluation. Additionally, the Team has developed a Macro-Policy Trinitydatabase (www.mpt-index.cn) that combines economic stability policy, structural policy, and growth policy, and a project website (www.cueb.edu.cn/zzjjxtx) for China’s economics knowledge system. The Team is now renowned in the domestic macroeconomic field.
