Big Data & AI Committee Set up by School of Information, School of Statistics

With the new scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation sweeping the world, big data and AI have gradually become the hotspots in the development of new-generation information technology, and accelerated the deep integration with various fields of economy and society. In order to promote the deep integration of AI and big data, effectively promote their development and application, accelerate the development of disciplines and majors, and give full play to the role of the two schools, Big Data and AI Committee, with Professor Ji Hong as chairperson, was co-founded by the School of Information and the School of Statistics. On the morning of September 21st, leaders of the two schools discussed over the specific functions and agenda of the Big Data and AI Committee (hereinafter referred to as Committee).

At the undergraduate level, the Committee coordinated undergraduate major management through co-development of undergraduate majors, personnel cultivation, professional teaching standard, teaching material development, curriculum arrangement, etc. In view of platform building, hardware platform should be gradually built to establish Big Data and AI Super Computing Centre. The establishment of the Big Data and AI Academy can hence be prepared.

The undergraduate major of big data was co-founded by the two schools in 2014, and the establishment of coordinated innovative platform of big data analysis master education was started by five universities (RUC, PKU, CAE, CUFE and CUEB) in the same year. The strong cooperation gave birth to this committee, which will not only boost the precise combination and long-term development of AI and big data, but also signifies another in-depth cooperation between the two schools. Both schools will pool brains, integrate resources, leverage respective strengths to achieve coordinated innovation, complementary and common development.
