On September 23rd, CUEB held a meeting to allocate major tasks of second half year of 2020. Party Secretary Feng Pei summarized the major work in the first half year , while President Fu Zhifeng arranged those in the second half .

On his statement, Feng Pei reviewed the anti-epidemic experience in the first half year of 2020 with detailed figures in the following nine aspects.

First, CUEB organized online teaching  for the needs of epidemic prevention and control, and the teaching work has made steady progress. 1502 online courses are offered for undergraduates, 491 online courses are offered for postgraduates, and more than 150 online courses are offered for international students. The enrollment of postgraduates and the defense of graduate thesis have been successfully completed.

Second, CUEB Party members set an example and organized a team of volunteers to successfully complete the graduation post work in this special graduation season. In 10 days, more than 8,630 pieces totaled 136 tons of luggage were mailed to more than 1,640 graduates, completing related tasks about graduation.

Third, CUEB promoted the disciplines and profession construction and made plans for development. CUEB actively prepared for the 5th round of discipline evaluation and started the national and municipal first-class profession application and the preparation of the 14th Five-Year Plan.

Fourth, CUEB has achieved expected goals in the recruitment and employment work. Under the new round of gaokao reform in Beijing, CUEB enrolled 2,449 undergraduates, 1,698 postgraduates and 450 students for Second Bachelor Degree, and received 354 run-through cultivated students（a form of training mode that links high school, higher vocational education and undergraduate education）for the first time.

Fifth, CUEB has achieved fruitful results in the improvement of scientific research and service to the society. 44 national-level projects have been approved. The key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China have achieved historic breakthroughs. The collaborative innovation center built by several on-campus scientific research platforms represented by the Megacity Research Institute will soon be approved. The think tank was well received by Beijing.

Sixth, CUEB has attracted talents continually and improved the overall quality of faculty. CUEB recruited a batch of faculty members such as full-time teachers (99), counselors (5) and management positions (3). Talent programs have made significant growth with 1 teacher awarded  Special governance allowances of the State Council and 2 teachers   selected as the "four groups of talents", which refer to a group of theoretical talents, a group of well-known journalists, editors, hosts and publishers, a group of literary creation, art, national traditional culture, local cultural talents, and a group of cultural industry management, cultural creativity and cultural technical talents.

Seventh, CUEB has strengthened the development of resource guarantee system and maintained the good condition of campus security and stability. Based on COVID-19 prevention and control, CUEB continued to support the logistic services, prompted the establishment of No.6 Student Dormitory in order, reconstructed Hongmiao Campus well, maintained the stability and security of CUEB and improved the medical service system step by step.

Eighth, Party organizations at all levels in CUEB play a major role in fighting against the COVID-19 and winning this battle against the epidemic. Party organizations at all levels cooperated with each other, arranged students and teachers to declare their basic information such as health condition and location. Especially when the second-wave virus outbroke, CUEB took the lead to do 1290 nucleic acid tests for teachers and students. All of these results are negative by now.

Ninth, CUEB has improved Party conduct, conducted supervision, advanced the development of ideological and political courses and combined moral education and professional courses together. CUEB has taken the lead in deepening reform of the supervision system among Beijing universities. CUEB carried out special supervision on COVID-19 prevention and control work with all its efforts, and actively rectified and implemented the inspection opinions and suggestion from No. 5 Discipline Inspection from Beijing Municipal Committee. CUEB focused on the development of ideological and political courses and combined moral education and professional courses together.

Feng Pei pointed out that we have gone through emergencies in the first half year of 2020. However, with the cooperation of all CUEBers, we realized the version of that “your happiness is my sunshine”.  

Next, President Fu Zhifeng deployed the key work of the second half year of 2020. Focusing on the development goal of building CUEB into a China’s first-class and world-renowned university of finance and economics, Fu stressed that in the second half year of 2020:

CUEB will concentrate on the development goal and position and improve the scientific & research , endeavor to conduct the fifth round of discipline evaluation, and apply for the undergraduate first-class profession. 

CUEB will continue to adjust the discipline and professional structure and advance the reform of enrollment and cultivation of undergraduates (according to the first grade disciplines to recruit students). Therefore, CUEB can improve the quality of talent.

CUEB will concentrate on the cultivation of versatile talents, optimize class structure and training program and prepare the management of Second Bachelor’s Degree and joint training.

CUEB will steadily promote reform of teachers’ salary and recruitment system, advance allocation incentive mechanism. Therefore, CUEB can stimulate the vitality of teaching and improve the core competence of talents.

CUEB will standardize the construction  of governance system and competence, prompt a list of power and obligations system, strengthen the organization of existing school systems and modernize the CUEB governance capacity and governance system.

Embracing opportunities and challenges, Feng Pei proposed four suggestions to CUEB faculty in his conclusion:

First, leading by political construction, we should have political integrity and think in big-picture terms, be firm in “Four-sphere Confidence” (Confidence in the path, theory, system and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics) and “Four Services” (Serve for people, serve for the governance of the Communist Party of China, serve for the consolidation and development of socialism with Chinese Characteristics and serve for the Reform and Opening-up and socialist modernization cause). Feng interpreted the spirit of the important speech of General Secretary Xi Jinping on Seminar for Representative of Experts in the Field of Education, Culture, Hygiene and Sports hosted on September 22nd, and he pointed out that it is necessary to deepen the comprehensive reform in the education field and integrate the systematicness, integrality and cooperativity together in education reform.

Second, with strengthening virtue through education, we should regard the ideological development as our core value and stand firm in ideological work. In the constantly changing world, we need to persist in the socialist orientation in running schools, and make the education road clearer. 

Third, with the responsibility sense of organization building, we should focus on the development of cause in one heart. Concentrating on practice, organizations at different levels should lead faculty to improve consciousness of Party members to fight for the same goal of CUEB and all Schools in one mind through the theme education “Taking Responsibility and Striving for Future”. 

Fourth, with the question of improving conduct and enforcing discipline, we must strengthen Party self-governance, and address system problems. Those in senior positions and all faculty should be strict to themselves and be self-discipline, especially when facing heavy pressure, and do not to leave things to luck. CUEB will also resolutely block the shortcomings of the system through the inspection and supervision, including a review of key random inspections of units that have been inspected..

Feng Pei hoped that all faculty and staffs gather their strengths, shoulder their responsibilities regardless of the moment of success, and deliver a good performance with our efforts for the university we have strived for, for the university we are fighting for, and for the university we will still fight for.
