CUEB Party Secretary Wang Wenju and His Team Visits Italy and Finland

From June 23 to 28, CUEB Party Secretary Wang Wenju led a delegation to Italy and Finland for academic exchanges, aiming at advancing the university’s international cooperation and Sino-European joint research. The delegation visited the Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata (Tor Vergata for short), Uni-Italia, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Finland, and Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. They received a warm reception from these institutions, engaging in in-depth academic exchanges with fruitful outcomes. The delegation included Professor Liu Wenchuan, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges and Dean of the School of International Education; Professor Liu Xuexin, Dean of the College of Business Administration; Professor Du Wencui, Dean of the School of Economics; Professor Jiang Xuemei, Deputy Dean of the School of Economics; and Professor Wang Kai, Deputy Dean of the College of Business Administration.

During the visit to Tor Vergata, Wang provided an update on the recent developments at CUEB and reviewed the successful cooperation between the two universities in areas such as dual-degree graduate programs and joint research centers. He noted that this visit aimed to exchange the latest research achievements of both institutions, and consolidate the cooperative partnership while exploring new collaboration models. Professor Du Wencui shared positive feedback from 8 students participating in the dual-degree program and highlighted the joint efforts in establishing the Sino-European Center for Finance and Economic Development. She also presented the latest research achievements from the School of Economics of CUEB in environmental economics. Professor Wang Kai introduced the College of Business Administration and reviewed the cooperation in faculty exchanges and joint research. He then shared ongoing research on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), engaging in academic discussions with professors from Tor Vergata on relevant topics. Professors from Tor Vergata shared their latest research findings and discussed prospects for future cooperation in dual-degree programs, faculty exchanges, and research on carbon peaking and carbon neutrality for sustainable development. The delegation also toured the Library of the School of Economics and the campus.

A total of 11 people from the Tor Vergata participated in the event, including Professor Bianca Sulpasso, Vice President for International Affairs; Professor Mariangela Zoli, Deputy Dean of the School of Economics; Professor Giovanni Trovato and Professor Alessio D’Amato from the Department of Economics and Finance; Professor Luca Gnan and Professor Biancamaria Raganelli from the Department of Management and Law; Professor Wenjuan Cheng, a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Economics; Dr. Florinda Magliulo from the Department of Global Engagement and Exchange; Dr. Susanna Petrini from the International Cooperation Office of the School of Economics, and Dr. Paola Coppola from the School of Economics Library.

In the Uni-Italia, Wang Wenju highlighted CUEB’s achievements and close cooperation with Italian universities such as Tor Vergata, expecting to take this opportunity to strengthen international communication and cooperation. Alberto Ortolani, Secretary-General of the Uni-Italia, praised the significance of interactions between Chinese and Italian universities in advancing the economic and social developments of both countries. He promised to assist CUEB in establishing connections with more Italian universities and invited CUEB to participate in the multi-university exhibition in Beijing this October.

The Uni-Italia, established with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research, the Italian Ministry of the Interior, and the Italy China Council Foundation, is committed to offering comprehensive advisory and technical services to students and scholars studying in Italy. It also facilitates the participation of Italian universities and art institutions in various exhibitions and presentations.

At Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences (Haaga-Helia), Wang Wenju introduced the basic situation of CUEB, reviewed past cooperation, and expressed a desire to deepen collaboration. Professor Liu Xuexin and Professor Jiang Xuemei introduced the situation and research findings of the College of Business Administration and the School of Economics at CUEB, emphasizing their intention to deepen cooperation. Professors Liu Wenchuan, Du Wencui, and Wang Kai, also exchanged research findings with their counterparts at Haaga-Helia. Katri Salmi, Director of the Office of International Communication, introduced Haaga-Helia’s degree programs and research areas. Pasi Halmari, Head of the International Education Affairs Department, introduced the China Network of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences. Both sides identified multiple opportunities for cooperation, including student exchanges, dual programs, faculty visits, joint research, and summer schools.

In Finland, the delegation visited the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Finland and received a warm reception from Wang Tongqing, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. Wang Wenju introduced CUEB’s development and achievements, explaining that this visit was to deepen cooperation with Haaga-Helia and explore more opportunities with other Finnish universities. Wang Tongqing introduced the current situation of educational exchanges between China and Finland, affirmed its positive role in strengthening bilateral relations, and expressed his willingness to support educational cooperation.

This visit consolidated and deepened CUEB’s ties with partner universities, creating new opportunities for cooperation with Tor Vergata and Haaga-Helia, as well as for forming new partnerships with other European universities. CUEB is committed to pursuing in-depth cooperation with top-tier international universities, enhancing globally-oriented education, and contributing to the “Silk Road” initiative. The goal is to establish CUEB as a domestically first-class and internationally renowned high-level research university.
