Food Service Center in CUEB Prioritizes Procurement of Agricultural Products in Poverty-stricken Area to Relieve Poverty
“The new crispy duck tastes good; I will come again tomorrow.” On December 15th at noon, many teachers bought ducks from poverty-stricken area in Faculty Canteen.
Since the beginning of December, the Faculty Canteen and all the students Canteen have set the place to sell “Ducks from Poverty-stricken Area in Xinjiang”. A wide variety of duck dishes are available, such as crispy duck, Sichuan spicy duck, duck with chili sauce, stewed duck in beer, duck soup with mushroom and spicy duck head, which are widely welcomed by teachers and students. The ducks all are from Hotan in Xinjiang, 4,000 km away.
The ducks from Lop County in Hotan came into the Canteens in CUEB with fervent hope of people in Hotan to relieve from poverty through peer-to-peer transport and strict quarantine inspection. They finally transformed into delicious food.
A team of chefs who develop duck dishes do a good job in introducing and selling ducks for poverty alleviation in Lop County. Chefs brainstormed, innovated and cooked different parts of the ducks with different skills like fired, stir fried, cooked, deep fired and boiled according to the features of ducks.
In order to drive sales, the takeout service of semi-finished ducks in vacuum package with cooking methods were provided for faculties in Faculty Canteen. Teachers are called on to pass love by this way as well as enjoy the taste at home.
In order to implement the spirit of related documents and support poor areas to fight against poverty, Food Service Center actively launched “Buying Products to Alleviate Poverty” Campaign, that is, consuming agricultural products or services from poverty-stricken areas preferentially to help them out of poverty. CUEB signed a purchase agreement with the designated poverty alleviation product companies to buy large amounts of rice, flour and edible oil through fupin832.com, which is a platform selling products from 832 counties that are or were on the state list of poverty-stricken areas. CUEB overfulfilled the purchase task with 1,844,610 yuan, which helped 2,468 households out of poverty. In 2020, CUEB purchased 16 tons (amount to 184,000 yuan) of Xinjiang ducks and helped about 12,000 households out of poverty.
