CUEB Holds the 18th Campus Singer Contest

To promote the construction of campus culture, enrich students’ cultural and artistic activities, and show their vitality, Music Only — the 18th CUEB Singer Contest themed “Singing for the Times & Singing for you” was held by the Student Union and guided by the Youth League Committee from early April to late May.

 

After audition on April 16, offline preliminary contest on April 28 and semi-final on May 7, top ten singers reached the final of the Contest.

 

On the evening of May 21, Music Only — the 18th CUEB Singer Contest was held in Zhuoyu Auditorium Hall. On the centenary of CPC and the 65th anniversary of CUEB, the Contest was infused with more contemporary and youthful elements to convey missions of the age and responsibilities of the youth with songs. The contest was organized both online and offline. More than 400 audience, including faculties, CUEBers and alumni, watched the contest and thousands of viewers watched the live aired by Broadcast team from School of Culture and Communication.

 

 

The final consisted of three rounds, including the contestants singing with friends, solo and champion rivalry.Five professionals formed the jury. They were: Han Changmei, vocal professor and postgraduate advisor from the School of Music of Minzu University of China (MUC); Ma Zhengtao, vocal Associate Professor of Beijing Contemporary Music Academy (BJCMA) and Jury President of Sing! China (a music TV Show) in Zhejiang sub-contest area; Sun Lei, President of Culture and Art Department of CUEB Party Committee and CUEB Student Art Troupe; Gulzipaer, CUEB counselor and vocal postgraduate of MUC; and Yu Xinyang, CUEBer, part-time deputy secretary of CUEB Youth League Committee and deputy secretary general of the Student Union.

 

At the beginning, top ten singers of the contest sang Proud Youth, a song adapted by CUEBers to express best wishes to the centenary of the CPC, the 65th anniversary of CUEB and to express their enjoyment of energetic life here.

 

 

In Round One of contestants singing with friends, Wang Ying and He Dongjun got the highest score by singing a Korean song Eyes, Noses, Lips. In Round Two of solo, five singers including Wang Ying, Guo Neng, Chen Xiaoren, Wang Linxin and Zhang Xinyin competed together. Red Rose by Wang Linxin impressed the audience with the singer’s beautiful sound and moving performance. Finally, Wang Linxin, Guo Neng and Wang Ying made their way into Round Three. In the last round, three singers sang unaccompanied songs. The professional jury, public jury and music-lovers group jointly voted for the contest. The Most Beautiful Sun by Guo Neng with perfect and touching sound and full passion enlivened the atmosphere and received praises from the jury and audience. Finally, Guo Neng won the champion. Wang Linxin and Wang Ying were the runner-up and the second runner-up respectively.

 

 

 

 

During the break of the three-hour battle, presidents of Student Union of University level and school level C chorused We are All Dream Chasers, expressing CUEBers’ faith in taking responsibility in youth and determination for pursing their dreams. M-plex Dance Club showed a fascinating dance after all performances.

 

 

 

In this contest, singers’ performance order was decided by the newly-added online popularity channel, through which CUEBers could vote for their favorite singers. Finally, Wang Yidi, Guo Neng, Xie Xinyi became the three most popular singers.

 

 

At the very start of Music Only held online on April 16, about 200 students signed up for the contest. Top ten singers after preliminary contest and semi-final made their ways into the final. Carrying music dreams of CUEBer, Music Only has been in its 18th year in CUEB. The 18th Campus Singer Contest inspired CUEBers to express gratitude to our motherland and CUEB and to shoulder missions of the era.
